Studio Visit: Mysterious Al

Mysterious Al has been making graf-ically inspired art for years, and has been someone that we have frequently seen in group shows around the globe. As one of the original members of the Finders Keepers set along with D*Face, PMH and Dave the Chimp, he was at the axis of the UK street art scene in the early 2000’s. Finders Keepers was a series of DIY / illegal street art exhibitions where artists were invited to exhibit their work on disused shop fronts and on […]

Streets / Video: Vhils x Orelha Negra – M.I.R.I.A.M.

Looks like Vhils went all Cai Guo-Qiang on us with this new explosive video collaboration with Orelha Negra. The Lisbon-based artist appears to have increased his already versatile bag of tricks to get his works up on the walls for this music video for M.I.R.I.A.M. from the Portuguese instrumental hip-hip band. In a world where street art is expected to be temporary, with his techniques, Vhils is making his mark and making it damn near permanent. Take a look at some photos of the work […]

Streets: Banksy – “Oscar Tour” (Los Angeles) Part IV

Banksy continues beautifying the streets, and inducing the hysteria of greedy landowners and construction crews, in the Los Angeles area (Part I & Part II & Part III) as a build up to the Academy Awards this Sunday. Located right around the corner from USC’s main campus, Kite riffs on the illegal immigrant caution signs riddling the southern California freeways around the Mexican border area. This Looks A Bit Like An Elephant (after the jump) on the other hand cleverly substitutes wall space for a […]

Studio Visit: Lucas Price

Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a […]

Along […]

Banksy x Simpsons (Part II) and Oscar Update (Part III)

After taking a brilliant turn as the director of the Simpsons’ opening sequence, Banksy returns as a reference in the last episode (22×14) as a timely tag backstage as America’s favorite animated family makes an appearance at the Oscars. Speaking of which, several other pieces (including one that made grown men fight) have popped up since we showed you the first two stencils in Los Angeles. We’ll see if he has what it takes to win the award for best documentary come this weekend, but […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part II

As we reported earlier, French street activist and photographer JR is continuing his assault on the walls of LA since starting with a mural in Venice last week.  LA weekly is following his progress in bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” to Socal on their website (map) and this is the latest piece at Barracuda in Melrose. This newest project will lead in nicely to the TED Prize award show on March 2 (live streaming) where he will reveal his “wish.” Discuss JR here.

Phlegm x Sukhoi Su-17

Looks like Retna’s not the only one into painting aircraft. Phlegm recently enhanced this old Soviet fighter jet, a Sukhoi Su-17 with some of his signature imagery.  If you are in the UK, you’ll be able to see more of his work when he tagteams with ROA on the BLACK/LIGHT show in about a week. Closer looks at the jet after the jump…
