Streets: ROA (Mexico)

One of the hardest working street artists in the game, ROA recently made a special trip to Mexico where he took time to throw up a bunch of murals (you can see more on Unurth). Not only did he reprise his signature “stacked pile” of animals, but he also chose creatures we have never seen him use before. Also, for those lucky enough to be in the UK, he has already gotten up in East London as well as created a monster installation at Black […]

Setup / Preview – POW WOW ’11

It’s been a crazy few days since we landed in sunny Hawaii where the crew has been in the thick of getting ready for the big  POW WOW ’11. We worked alongside our friends at Hypebeast, Booooooom and the rest of the sponsors to stretch canvases and build modular installation platforms in anticipation for Saturday night’s opening. Artists such as Will Barras, Meggs, Ekundayo, Prime, Jeff Hamada,  123Klan, Kamea Hadar and Jasper Wong have begun working on their various murals. It’s looking to be a tremendous event come […]

Streets: JR (Venice, CA)

It looks like street photographer JR is back in Southern California after Eurotrash took over the Lazarides pop-up gallery last July. If you remember, as an adjunct for that show, he worked on a sweet collaboration with Vhils in downtown LA.  This time, the French street activist will be bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” project over to the States after it’s original start in Shanghai.  Here is a piece he put up in Venice, the first in a series of twenty large-scale photos […]

Recommended openings for this weekend (Feb. 18th/19th)

Following a very robust early February due in part to some very high profile shows opening, things slow a lil’ bit the world over this weekend. Leading the charge will be the big POW WOW event over in Hawaii and DABS MYLA’s debut out in the desert at M Modern in Palm Springs alongside a small showing of new works on paper from the legendary SHAG. Looking ahead to March, we’ll have major solo shows to look forward to from the likes of Jose Parla, […]

Releases: KAWS – “Dissected Milo” Vinyl Figures

In a project that most have been aware of for quite a while, it appears that the KAWS x BAPE Dissected Milo figures will see the light of day very soon. With the character appearing on a series of shirts from a few years back, and also getting a reprise with BAPE’s 2011 Spring Collection, it was only a matter of time before it was manifest in vinyl form. Coming in at 8″ in height and most likely produced in the same editions of the […]

Events: Shepard Fairey @ All Tomorrow’s Parties USA 2011

All Tomorrow’s Parties USA has just unveiled Shepard Fairey as the special artist for this year’s festival. For the event, Fairey has designed the above poster featuring the Asbury Park Convention Center and Paramount Theater where the three-day music extravaganza will be held. The print will only be available on-site during the fest, which runs from Friday September 30th to Sunday October 2nd. In addition to amazing acts throughout the weekend such as Portishead, Jeff Magnum of Neutral Milk Hotel, Shellac and Mogwai, DJ Shepard […]

Streets: Kid Acne – ‘Art Fags’ & Ema – ‘Dropmen’ (Paris)

One of our favourite things we’ve seen on the streets over the last few months have been Kid Acne’s Art Fags. Acne has frequently brightened the day with his playful creations, but this huge street art in-joke makes us smile everytime we come across one. KA has been on a pasting spree on the streets of Paris, along with partner in crime Ema – who has getting busy dropping her Dropmen alongside the looseys. Perhaps we will see some more action from Kid Acne in […]

Openings: ‘Printmaking Today / ROA Installation’ @ Black Rat Projects

AM had to cut our evening in London short this Thursday due to problems with the trains, so unfortunately missed our VNA friends’ new issue launch, but we did manage to get to Black Rat Projects’ Printmaking Today show. In addition to their great looking and very large multiple layered edition from Swoon (interviewed), BRP also presented a series of secondary market editioned works from such contemporary artists as Peter Blake, Tracy Emin, Grayson Perry, Peter Doig and Damien Hirst as well as editioned work […]

POW WOW ’11 / Interview: 123Klan

Some other participants in this year’s POW WOW will be Scien and Klor, repping the 123Klan from Montreal. Initially formed as a graffiti crew 20 years ago, the klan has branched out to branding, creation of logos, character design, illustration and typefaces, all the while staying true to their first love – graffiti. Take a look after the jump as we sit down with the husband and wife duo for a short interview.

Streets: Banksy (Los Angeles) Part II

As we suspected, Banksy was not done with his initial “Crayon Shooter” stencil in West LA. Looks like another piece has been discovered showing he’s a fan of Charlie Brown on the side of an abandoned fire-damaged building.  We wonder how many he has planned as we lead up to the Oscars.  Take a look at another video from Foreman of the initial piece after the jump…
