Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Flower Signs & Twins”

Mark Jenkins is back in the house, this time with something for (almost) everyone. He’s released two editions based on his publicly installed pieces – Flower Signs and Twins. We at AM have always loved his unique sculptures & installations, but rarely do we see an editioned piece from Jenkins. What we like about this is that both are hand made and individually signed. Get yours here while you can. Check out the image of the twins after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during […]

Studio Visits: Kid Zoom – “This City Will Eat Me Alive” @ Opera (Meatpacking)

This Saturday, December 11th (7pm), Kid Zoom is having his first ever US solo at a pop-up space (72 Gansevoort St. New York, NY 10014) in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district. The show is hosted by Opera Gallery and it looks to be pretty fresh. Ron English tipped us off on the Aussie artist a while back and we’ve been keeping an eye on him ever since. Looking forward to see the upcoming show, we dropped by KZ’s Brooklyn studio to catch him putting the final touches […]

Teaser: “Dreams Deferred” @ Chinese American Museum

While the genocide of Native Americans, the enslavement of Africans, and the more recent agitation about illegal immigration is a familiar topic to many, what the Chinese in America have endured remains an unfamiliar subject to most. So little is taught about the discriminations the Chinese faced in the late 1800’s and early to mid 1900’s that sadly, many Chinese-Americans today don’t even know their own history. For example, did you know that the only law to exclude a certain race from the US was […]

Viewpoints / Openings: Richard Hambleton pop-up show @ The Dairy, London

Three weeks ago, AM attended the London preview for the pop-up exhibition Richard Hambleton New York. Upon entering the venue, it wasn’t immediately clear whether we’d arrived at an art show or a fashion show. The heaving crowd and large amount of perfume in the air may have disoriented us slightly; we were left hesitating between taking pictures of the art on the walls and the clothes people were wearing. What’s certain is that the event was glamourous, and it’s been a long time since […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – It Ain’t Fair @ OHWOW

For the third year, Miami’s OHWOW put on its annual Art Basel Week group exhibition, entitled It Ain’t Fair, which is always a welcome respite from the cubicled craziness of Basel and the other fairs. As in previous years, the show presented a well-curated selection of works by some of today’s most cutting-edge artists, including Scott Campbell, Dan Colen, FriendsWithYou, Phil Frost, Tomoo Gokita, KAWS, Robert Lazzarini, Nate Lowman, Ari Marcopoulos, Barry McGee, Neck Face, José Parlá and Aurel Schmidt. See all the images from It […]

Studio Visit: Supakitch

AM caught up with French-born, Brooklyn-based artist Supakitch at his studio and got a sneak peek of a large new body of work slated for his solo show entitled I Was Born to Be Different, opening in mid-December at Galerie Elegance in Taiwan. Supa is an artistic jack of all trades—painter, print-maker, fashion-designer and tattoo artist. He easily switches between mediums, and even more impressive, mixes them with his love of DJ/hip-hop music and Japanese manga & anime, into his own coherent and unique aesthetic, […]
