Releases: Faile Relaunches Website with Originals & Prints

One would think that the Faile collective would take a little time off after their bangin’ “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” show last year in the UK (covered), but 2009 is no off-year for them. First, they went on a “Supreme: Urban Beautification” campaign on the streets of Manhattan (reported), and now they have relaunched their website: Faile.net with some fresh designs and some even fresher original works & prints which will be sold exclusively through their online shop. To make things as fair as possible for […]

Armory Focus: Opus Art @ Bridge Art Fair

During Armory Week, there were a few things that caught our attention. One of the highlights of the Bridge Art Fair was British gallery Opus Art who traveled from the UK to show New York just what they have to offer. Opus brings a hip mix of Contemporary and Urban artists that included: Chris Kettle, Peter Blake, SHEONE, Justine Smith, Lex Thomas, Dave White, Hush, Bai Tao and Johan Andersson. AM spent some time gazing at the diverse range of great works showcased at their booth. We got […]

Armory Focus: Bast Studio Visit by New Image Art

The thing about “Art Show” week (Armory, Art Basel, Art LA) is not only exposure to all the great art you can handle, but you also realize how small the art community is. Seeing big-named artists walking down the aisle and celebrities moving from booth to booth is not an uncommon occurrence. At the Armory Art Fair, we ran into Marsea Goldberg of LA’s New Image Art. Marsea told AM that she was in town not only to check out Armory Week, but also to “catch up” […]

Armory Week: Armory Art Show NYC

The ARMORY Art Show as it’s name implies, was literally a stockpile of the art world’s heavy artillery. With works from Damien Hirst, Yoshitomo Nara, Kara Walker, Kenny Scharf, Kehinde Wiley, Gilbert & George, Julian Opie, Marilyn Minters, Tom Sachs and many more, the stockade of high caliber art stretched the imagination. Much like Art Basel in Miami, we struggled to keep up with the long aisles filled with notable galleries such as White Cube, Emmanuel Perrotin, Honor Fraser, and Mizuma that all brought their […]

Preview/Interviews: Mike Leavitt – “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” @ Fuse Gallery

Seattle based artist Mike Leavitt is opening up his show “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” in New York at the Fuse Gallery on March 21st. His versatility as almost a modern day renaissance man, working in many different mediums and art forms, has always impressed us but in particular his Art Army figures and more recently, his cardboard shoes have caught our eye. Luckily, many examples of both series will be on display for this exhibition. He talks about his work among other things in an […]

Futura, Stash & Phil Frost @ Cuadro Fine Art Gallery (Dubai)

Cuadro Fine Art Gallery, in collaboration with KRUNK, will be hosting a three-man exhibition featuring urban legends Phil Frost, Futura, and Stash later this month. The show will held in conjunction with Art Dubai, U.A.E.’s third annual contemporary art fair, part of their ever-growing ambitions to become the center of the art world (see article on construction of their cultural district). A Collector’s Lunch is scheduled for March 17th and an evening Preview Reception on March 19 will open the exhibition which will remain on […]

Outsiders Selection @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

Another great group show is underway at Lazarides (Newcastle Location). This time, the exhibition that opened last weekend is entitled “Outsiders Selection” and features original paintings, prints and sculpture from Faile, Antony Micallef, Blu, Ian Francis, David Choe, JR, Conor Harrington, Damien Hirst, Paul Insect, Invader, Polly Morgan, Kelsey Brookes, Vhils, Jonathan Yeo, Herbert Baglione, Zevs, and more.  Although the art was mainly older work, there were many standout pieces including this stunning “Flying Copper” (seen above) by Banksy suspended in glass/plexi.  Many more pics […]

Armory Week: Bridge Art Fair

Continuing our tour of Armory Week in NY, AM dropped by Bridge Art Fair. In keeping with the spirit of its location in the heart of the Chelsea gallery district, the exhibitors at the fair pushed the bounds with their representations of contemporary artwork. See all the photos after the jump.

Lance Armstrong x Nike Sportswear – “Stages” Touring Art Exhibition Supporting Livestrong

AM was on hand at Nike’s Montalbán Theater last night for the unveiling of “Stages,” a collaborative art project between Lance Armstrong and Nike Sportswear in which artwork from over twenty-one of today’s most prominent artists from across the globe will be exhibited and sold to support Livestrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. After a humor-filled introduction by actor Ben Stiller, Lance Armstrong and Livestrong president Doug Ulman took the stage and were subsequently joined by Nike CEO Mark Parker where they discussed the inception of […]

Openings: Hush – “Hymn of Beauty” @ Carmichael Gallery

Hailing from the streets of Newcastle, UK artist Hush (interviewed) opened his show “Hymn of Beauty” at Carmichael Gallery last night.  From a stunningly textured mural to the hand-finished touches that made certain paintings overlap onto the wall, the presentation was top-notch.  Although he maintained his anonymity for photos (above), Hush was more than happy to engage fans in conversation and to discuss his work.  We especially liked the poem he painted on one of the walls from Charles Baudelaire that was used as the […]
