Streets: Philippe Baudelocque (Paris)

Philippe Baudelocque recently took part in the ongoing BergeStreet event on the banks of the Seine in Paris. Creating one of his signature chalk drawings in public, the Paris-based artist created this interesting, delicate mural inspired by the sculpture of a rhinoceros from the forecourt of the nearby Musée d’Orsay. Yesterday, we headed down to Coachella, not the annual music and arts festival, but to the city itself. Despite the associated name of the huge yearly revenue source nearby, the taxes go to the city of Indio with the actual city of Coachella remaining a poor farming community. Streets: Nychos (San Francisco)

Austrian street muralist Nychos has made a return to San Francisco after painting a massive wall in the city last year. This time around, he worked on a ground level dissection in Haight-Ashbury (arranged by Wallspace SF) for his fans in the Bay Area, many of whom will be making it out to the opening of his solo show, entitled Street Anatomy, on April 18th at Fifty24SF. The other day, the inevitable end of La Tour Paris 13‎ project (covered) started. The big (de)construction machines surrounded the building inside which 100 artists from around the world left their mark, and started tearing it down. This project was curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance, and was undertaken with the idea to paint the inside of this abandoned building creating the biggest street art exhibition in France. Vhils aka Alexandre Farto recently spent some time in Brazil working with the Guarani tribe in the Piraquara region and creating a new body of work for a show at Caixa Cultural in Curitiba, Brazil. The Portuguese artist spent some time working with the tribesmen in the Araçaí village, creating works for the show, as well as leaving his mark in the village. Spanish artist Borondo recently moved to London and has been very active on the streets of the British capital. Known for his raw, expressive style of painting, which often is done by scratching the paint off glass or other surfaces, he’s been creating works on shop windows, under bridges and such unusual places. Spanish muralist Aryz recently spent few days in Linz, Austria, working on this gigantic piece titled Overprotected. The painting of the mural was organized by Bubbledays, a wakeboard, music, and streetart festival happening from the 13th to 14th of June, and was created in the Linz harbor area where the event will take place. AM visited Dutch artist Femke Hiemstra in her home studio in Amsterdam shortly after relaunched her official website, Femtasia.nl, and the release of her latest book Timid Cabbage.
