Streets: Shepard Fairey x Levi’s Time Square Mural

Recently. AM had a chance to catch Shepard Fairey and his crew hard at work in the middle of Times Square for the launch of a special collaboration with Levi’s. In usual bold Obey fashion, the boys set up shop at the heart of the city to build a mural anchored by Shepard’s classic icon with a “pocketed” Levi’s twist. Not surprisingly the mural creation process drew a big crowd of fans and tourists eager to get pictures of Shepard much like his mural creation […]

Studio Visits: Tat Ito

AM recently had the pleasure of visiting with Tat Ito at the Queens, NY, studio that he shares with his assistant Yuyu Yang. Readers may remember that we thought that Ito was one of the standout new artists included in Joshua Liner Gallery’s excellent summer group show (covered). Well, Mr. Liner must have agreed with us, because Ito has a show with the gallery scheduled for February 2010, and from what we saw during our studio visit, it’s going to be a stunner.

Update: C215

In anticipation of his coming group show with Logan Hicks at Show & Tell Gallery (previewed), our friend Butterfly met up with C215 aka Christian Guemy to visit his new studio in the neighborhood of Vitry-sur-Seine of Paris. The tour was followed up by a cool street session where C215 worked the neighborhood. The ever creative urban artist stenciled his new surroundings and worked to create pieces representative of his trips from all around the world. More after the jump.

Studio Visits: Jeremy Fish

The other day, AM had the pleasure of visiting the North Beach, San Francisco studio of Jeremy Fish as he was putting the final touches on his upcoming museum show, “Weathering the Storm.” Fish, whose instantly recognizable illustrations and paintings are a veritable ark of silly pink bunnies, a parliament of strigiformes and a cable car crammed with weathered prospectors, has been working around the clock for the better part of the last four months creating an entirely new body of work for his first […]

Studio Visits: Greg Simkins

With Greg Simkins’ “The Pearl Thief” exhibition opening next Tuesday at Gallery1988, we thought we’d visit Greg and see how things were wrapping up. Professional, organized, and family oriented – those are the first things that come to mind when first stepping into Greg’s studio. These same themes continue throughout the rest of the studio’s rooms. Greg was finishing up one of his last paintings for the upcoming show when we dropped by, but took a little break to give us a tour. In addition […]
