Streets: Faile – Second Spinning Prayer Wheel Installation

Unperturbed by the theft of the first spinning prayer wheel (close-up feature) they placed in Williamsburg last month, Brooklyn based collective Faile have again installed another one of their beautiful, hand-carved prayer wheels in New York.Â With these prayer wheels selling for upwards of $20k at Faileâ€™s â€œLost in Glimmering Shadowsâ€ (covered) show last year, this awesome street piece probably won’t last for long. Street Art Shows Strong @ Sotheby’s Contemporary Day Auction

We heard a rumor that the economy is not well and the art market is hurting. Apparently, the folks attending Sothebyâ€™s Contemporary Day auction donâ€™t agree. Today’s sale yielded solid results, with 337 lots pulling in over 21.5 million USD. Among the amazing lineup of artists, such as Warhol, Basquiat, Kippenberger and Cy Twombly, AM noted the inclusion of two iconic names from the “Urban Art” genre: Shepard Fairey and Banksy. Jeff Soto makes his United Kingdom debut this week with his solo show entitled “The Inland Empire” (teased) opening Thursday, May 14th, at Stolenspace. AM caught up with Soto ahead of the show to try and understand how the show came together, the symbolism and meaning behind his new work and how fatherhood has changed his career as an artist. Tunnel 228 Theatre x Art Show by Kevin Spacey

The vaults under Waterloo Station have been taken over by artistic director Kevin Spacey and his team from the Old Vic Theatre for their latest venture: Tunnel 228.Â A very cool “pop up” art show and theatre experience that seems to have come out of nowhere. Openings: Damon Soule – “Same Loud No” @ Fecal Face

Fresh off his “Amused Loon” show last October at Joshua Liner, Damon Soule returns to his former stomping grounds with a new body of work. Entitled “Same Loud No“, Soule’s triumphant return to the Bay Area (his last show was in ’06) boasts a bevy of geometrics, prime numbers, acid casualties and other-worldy existence. Yoskay Yamamotoâ€™s (interviewed) latest body of work “Hello and Goodbye” (previewed) will open this Saturday, May 9th, at LeBasse Projects. Yoskay has been heads-down for the better part of 2009 crafting an intricate series of paintings for what looks to be a tremendous exhibition.
