Streets: Banksy x Occupy London?

What is purportedly a Banksy installation (see the TOX shoutout) has popped up at St.Paul’s Cathedral in support of the Occupy London Movement. The elusive street artist from Bristol’s alleged play on the Monopoly board game was remixed with the theme of the protests – corporate greed and corruption. We’ll see more and more artists get in the game in support of the 99% as these activists spread across the world (see original Occupy Wallstreet with Olek intervention). Streets: Steve “ESPO” Powers – A Love Letter To Brooklyn

Following up on his Love Letters to Philadelphia and Syracuse, Steve Powers most recently transformed downtown Brooklyn with his witty and endearing public art. Powers was given the walls of Macy’s department store parking garage for his project, and instead of the colorful palettes of his previous Love Letters, for BK NY, he chose black and white, reminiscent of his early days with Exterior Surface Painting Outreach. And unlike his other work, which tends to combine text and images equally, this new project is almost all […]

Streets: Phlegm (Sheffield)

Now that Phlegm is back to his home city of Sheffield earlier than expected he has some time to work on some local walls like this new one he calls “the passage”. Also, he has used some of his extra moments to work on his new book (see the last release, the soldout Illuminated Alphabet) with several incredibly detailed new drawings. See these as well as a detailed look at the mural after the jump…

Streets: Shepard Fairey @ ATP Festival (Asbury Park)

During Shepard Fairey’s stay in Asbury Park for his pop-up exhibition with Jonathan Levine Gallery (covered), the head of Obey also took some time to beautify the urban surroundings of the oceanfront city prior to the ATP Festival. Armed with cherry pickers and wall space as far as the eye could see, the posse set up shop for the week in spite of stormy weather to get their mission accomplished. Check out all the action after the jump by our Joe Russo.

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

Since the last London Street Art Roundup, Shoreditch has yet again been buzzing with activity. Much of this is due to Moniker Art Fair hitting Shoreditch for the second year running with a collection of artists around the globe filling the space of Village Underground. A highlight for AM has to be this great piece by Word to Mother (interviewed) on one of the panels outside the show which coincided with his solo show Essence of Adolescence at Stolen Space, alongside Australian duo Dabs Myla […]

Streets: El Mac & Augustine Kofie (Los Angeles)

Over the past week, artists El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) collaborated on a wall inside the KROQ radio station complex. For this project, the duo brought forth a mural which fittingly centered around the idea of music. They had previously worked together on a piece inside the 33third Store / Mid-City Arts building, however this time around they focused on a color palette featuring a variety of red, white and dark colors. Although their styles are very different, the two of them managed create […]

Streets: Escif for Festival “Le 4eme Mur” (France)

After working his magic in Norway with several murals for the Nuart Festival, it looks like the next destination for Spanish street dynamo Escif was France. He took some time to immerse himself in the city of Niort (“history, economical, old factory, architectures, silence of street without cars and ghost in a castel”) before working on some walls for the Festival “Le 4eme Mur” (The 4th Wall). More photos after the jump…

Nuart Festival ’11: Herbert Baglione & Tellas

Rounding out our coverage of this year’s Nuart Festival in Norway are two last artists – Herbert Baglione & Tellas. The Brazil-based Baglione spent most of his time working the walls (above) with some intricate tags that has not been typically for him when compared to his usual figurative style. However, when you realize that these were the names of of the 77 young people that died in the recent Norwegian terror attack, this particular room took on a more powerful and somber mood. Baglione […]

Teaser: Slinkachu – “The Big City” @ Kunstverein Ludwigsburg

The last time miniature street photographer Slinkachu had a solo, it was March in London and AM was there to witness it in person. Near the end of this month, October 23rd, the UK-based street artist will be taking what he affectionately calls his “little people” to Ludwigsburg for his first solo ever in Germany at Kunstverein Ludwigsburg. Entitled The Big City, which is actually EVERY city for his tiny sculpts when you think about it, the show will consist of a combination of past work and installations as […]

Videos: “Threads: Documentary”

Back in July, Converse & Foot Locker invited four artists to Berlin to work on a project featuring street installations. Expertly curated to include artists who work with similar mediums, the resulting Threads documentary follows Hottea, Moneyless, Spidertag, and Aimee Dymond as they strung, spread, tied, and hung yarn & thread in complex patterns and shapes all in colors of the new Converse Padded Collar.
