Streets: World Roundup (Oct 21 – Oct 27)

This week’s Streets World Roundup is headlined by the latest piece from Banksy during his month long artist residency on the streets of New York. Painted on Day 28 of the project, this wall in Coney Island muses on what a robot would paint if he was to do graffiti. Take a look at other murals you may have missed from Mr. B earlier in the month here. Other notable walls come from ABOVE – Canada, Mark Jenkins – Germany, Mark Dean Veca – Los […]

Streets: Ludo (London)

French artist Ludo (interviewed) was recently in London, where he created several new works on the streets of the British capital. Along with leaving his recognizable mark in form of black and white pasteups with bright green accents, the artist arranged a new gallery representation in the UK with Lazarides. New pieces include an image of the grim reaper with a banana instead of scythe, a huge “armed” sunflower with bullets and machine guns scattered around, and a familiar pineaple/skull punk image. After this, the artist had […]

Showing: 2501 x Ozmo – “Preto e Branco” @ Tag and Juice

Tag and Juice Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently opened Preto e Branco (Black and White), a show by 2501 (Jacopo Ceccarelli) and Ozmo (Gionata Gesi) from Italy. Opened on 2nd of October, the title of the show comes from the main colors that both artists use when creating their work. While the palette utilized is exactly the same, the actual works are quite diverse due to their different styles – the fine line work of 2501, and realistic portraits of religious figures of Ozmo. While visually very different, both […]

Streets: Swoon – Bowery & Houston Mural (Part I)

Earlier today, AM stopped by the corner of Bowery & Houston to catch up with Swoon (interviewed) as she started her mural. Putting up her work over the last two artists here (REVOK & POSE), the street artist and activist is only one in a long line of creatives who have blessed the location in the previous months (see here). We’ll be following up with the finished piece, but for now, enjoy some in-progress photos. Discuss Swoon here.

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 19, 20, 21

After we visited his literal outdoor gallery installation last Friday, Banksy continued his assault on the streets of New York over the weekend. Adding a video in Staten Island (below) that completed his tour of all five boroughs, Mr. B also created a clever strength tester stencil piece (below) utilizing existing elements, and a new one in South Bronx to start your Monday off (above). Discuss Banksy here.

Other worthy walls come from El Mac – Los Angeles (source), Telmo Miel – Belgium (source), SatOne – Germany (source), Swoon – London (source), Mafeel – South Korea, Xuan Alyfe – Switzerland, Ernest […]

Streets: Slinkachu – “Why is it so hard to find a job?” Series (Paris)

Street artist and photographer Slinkachu recently was in Paris where he set up his Why is it so hard to find a job? series of work (construction worker, guard, saleswoman, scientist, and electrician) around town. These new street installations were created to promote ReAct Paris, “a conference organised by the European Parliament to tackle the problems of unemployment in Europe, particularly youth unemployment, which in some parts of Europe stand close to a miserable 30%.” Hidden in plain sight all around the City of Light, the miniatures play with […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 18

Today, Banksy took his artist residency in New York straight to the hornet’s nest (aka Chelsea). Yes, the same Chelsea that houses some of the world’s most prestigious galleries. Keeping to the theme, Banksy put on display the canvases created in his most recent collaboration with his peers from the southern hemisphere, Os Gemeos, for the The Village Voice. Banksy changed things up to keep with the theme for today’s display and kept things orderly with the help of some security guards to regulate the number of […]

Streets: Ron English for Avant Garde Urbano (Spain)

Back in the 90s, Ron English and Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada were pioneering the street art movement (that was not even conceptualized) with their own private clan of “art fux,” modifying billboard, street signs with clever adverts. Once again, at this years Avant Garde Urbano they were making big things happen. English kept his cans shaking on his 30’x 20′ piece, utilizing every color in the palette that MTN so graciously had to offer, in the hot Tudela sun, while Rodriguez-Gerada was fresh off his wish project and hanging one of […]

Streets: Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada – “Wish” (Belfast)

Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada is a man of great conviction and indistinguishable vision. He has a huge heart and always seems to be dropping the biggest projects, and his latest endeavor is no exception – entitled Wish. This enormous 11 acre piece of land art has been years in the making and is currently the largest portrait in the UK, depicting a native child and the magnitude of a single wish. Phase 1 of the project consisted of Rodriguez-Gerada and his team of landscape architects utilizing the latest […]
