This past Saturday marked the opening of Barry McGee and Clare Rojas’ exhibition “Leave It Alone” & “Together At Last” (respectively) at the Bolinas Museum. The quaint community in northern California landed a double-stack of works featuring both iconic artists. We last saw the dynamic duo showing together last spring at New Image Art and this time the latest exhibition was indeed museum-worthy. McGee created floor to ceiling installations showcasing everything from his trademark bottles to his diverse pattern paintings to surprising goodness such as […]

Last weekend, the Laguna Art Museum opened their doors to crowds of art fans anxious to check out the newest exhibition – Art Shack. The group show included installations by artists like Mike Shine (featured), Martin Wittfooth, Kenny Scharf, Clayton Brothers (featured), and Jeff Gillette (who showed recently in LA) with a fantastic three-dimensional representation of his signature “slum” imagery. More photos after the jump but be sure to check out Hi-Fructose’s full photoset here.
German collaborative artists Herakut (interviewed) opened their show “Happy Doubt Day” (previewed) recently at Galerie Springmann.Varol. Along with paintings utilizing their signature mix of photorealistic and graffiti elements, the duo also introduced sculptural pieces that translated their paintings fantastically into 3D form. Also wowing the crowd was a large immersive installation. More photos after the jump…
Last weekend, AM got the call from D*Face that he was up to some mischief in London, so hopped on the train to go and see what his latest project involved. Remember we showed you the pool D*Face painted in LA last year? What we got was a similarily was great piece of pop-street art fusion here in the UK. D was recently commissioned by skate company REAL to create the artwork for three of it’s riders – Brock, Busenitz and Ramondetta – new signature […]
Danish artist Armsrock (interviewed) opened his solo show “Drawn Towards The Present” with London’s Signal Gallery last week. Ever willing to push the boundaries and try out something new, Armsrock filled the gallery with huge charcoal pieces on rice paper, suspended around the gallery with thin wire trace. The work is viewable from either front or rear due to the delicacy and translucency of the paper – the pieces nearest to the window being especially effective as you can observe the world going by through […]
London’s first Projectroom event took place last night, with out-of-town organiser Jaybo inviting locals Remi/Rough and Juice 126 to collaborate in a live painting event. The three artists each took a canvas to start work on individually – Remi and Jaybo working directly on the wall and Juice getting all primeval by working barefoot on the floor. As the evening progressed the three dipped in and out of the each others canvas’ leaving 3 pretty unique and well composed collaboration pieces. Expect more collaborative painting from […]
You may remember when we brought you some pics from the Oakland Museum of California, where Barry McGee was commissioned for an installation piece. Well, now comes a timelapse video of that all coming together along with some interviews with the curators who arranged everything. Discuss Barry McGee here.

Free Life Centre is a touring art installation and performance space conceived and constructed by artists Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed) and Seth Neefus. Last year, the friends and co-owners of Together Gallery (along with fellow artists Timothy Karpinski and David Wien), decided to put out a call for funding for the project, which was answered by friends and supporters. Now, the show is ready to go on the road, with a send–off party last week in Portland ahead of the first stop in Seattle, Wa. […]
According to our friends at Galerie Springmann.Varol, the street art tandem of Hera and Akut are already on site setting up their new show opening June 11th. Not only will the exhibition feature fantastic paintings from Herakut (interviewed), it looks as though there will be some exquisite sculptural work as well, bringing to life the creatures and imagery from their canvases.
