Over the weekend, Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles opened the doors to The Gilded Age featuring new works by Aaron Horkey, Esao Andrews, and João Ruas. Co-curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace and Horkey himself, the duo set out to put together a “dream-team” exhibition, giving it a title that harkened back to the late 19th century and the industrial revolution. Openings: Zaria Forman – “SLIP” @ Winston Wächter Fine Art

Last week, Winston Wachter Fine Art in New York hosted the opening of Zaria Forman’s exhibition entitled SLIP. Infused with climate change awareness, the pastel drawings from the Brooklyn-based artist documents subjects that range from the melting icebergs in Greenland to the rising sea levels that threaten the Maldives. Despite the rainy weather, fans braved the deluge to check out the her new work including her largest piece to date. Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Still Life” @ Fabien Castanier Gallery

Over the weekend, a solo from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) opened at the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Still Life. Aptly named, the exhibition featured mostly the American artist’s satirical and clever use of human forms as his form of art. Mirroring his street works, viewers can often time be taken unawares when thinking that his installations are actual people. NuArt ’15 / Openings: Nuart Exhibition @ Tou Scene

After short speeches by festival organizers and benefactors, as well as the town’s mayor, the 2015 NuArt exhibition officially opened Saturday night at Tou Scene in Stavanger, Norway. Openings: Dan Quintana – “Diffused” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Over the weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco hosted the opening of Dan Quintana’s lastest solo show. Entitled Diffused, the exhibition featured a dozen new oil paintings and several charcoal drawings on paper from the Los-Angeles based artist centered mainly around his ghostly portraiture, beautiful female characters surrounded by an aura of abstract elements. Openings: Cleon Peterson – “Poison” @ Library Street Collective

Over the weekend, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening for a new show from Cleon Peterson in Detroit. Poison features new paintings featuring nightmarish scenes of violence and gore, nothing new to fans of the former assistant to Shepard Fairey. After the exclusive press preview held on the 20th of August (covered), the 21st was day zero for Banksy’s newest and biggest show to date. Banksy phenomenon once again showed it’s strength, influence and unpredictable nature when his largest project to date, Dismaland, opened doors for the press preview earlier today. Roq La Rue upped the ante for the fifth edition of their Lush Life group show, titled Reverie. With both the main floor and upstairs project room utilized, and the debut of the large installation piece by Cheyenne Randall, the gallery was literally packed to the rafters.
