David Choe opened his latest show, “Character Assassination” last Thursday night at FIFTY24SF. Choe, who has deep ties with both the Bay Area, as well as the Upper Playground family, brought an incredibly large turnout for his long awaited SF return. Kehinde Wiley x PUMA (Paris Opening)

You may recall a project we told you about recently between Kehinde Wiley and PUMA for the World Cup this year. If you remember, the exhibition of paintings Kehinde created of three African soccer stars as well as a portrait with all three together representing the unity of Africa traveled to Berlin for an official unveiling. It has now moved on to Paris and Guillotine has all the pics including the individual portraits. More pics after the jump.

As AM was perusing the various booths at Art Los Angeles Contemporary, we ran into a painting by a instantly recognizable artist, lusted over by many a street art collector. Mike Weiss Gallery in Chlesea recently opened an interesting show by young German artist Stefanie Gutheil. The exhibition is entitled “Kopftheater”, which translates to “Theater of the mind” and is a fitting description of the strange and imaginative worlds portrayed in Gutheil’s paintings. The press release name-drops 15th and 16th-century Dutch painters Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel as influences, but we think that her creatures remind us a lot of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. The hottest twins in the art world landed in Milan for their much anticipated second show with Galleria Patricia Armocida entitled “Nos Braços de um Anjo” (In the Arms of an Angel), which opened last night. Os Gemeos premiered their latest body of work, consisting of beautiful canvas paintings, sculptures and of course their famed installations for the lucky folks of Italy. Last week, important shows for two young artists, Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani opened jointly at the Carmichael Gallery (their last show before moving to the new Culver City location). Mark Jenkins brought many of his classics indoors such as the paper tape carousel horse and faceless hooded mannequins.
