This past weekend, WK Interact opened his “amped-up” show “How To Blow Yourself Up” at LA’s Subliminal Projects. Unlike his last show at Jonathan Levine (covered), which focused on giant canvas works, this show centered around the intricately designed urban mechanisms and interactive installations which were handcrafted by WK himself. Always one to be on the cutting edge of art, New Image Art Gallery opened their “14 Artists” show last Friday night. The group show was a result of studio visits and correspondence with, you guessed it, 14 different artists. AM visited Jeremy Fish this past weekend in Laguna for the opening of “Weathering the Storm”, his first solo museum show. As you may well remember from our studio visit, Fish has created an entirely new body of work for this exhibit, featuring a variety of sizes and mediums. Openings: Aya Takano – “Reintegrating Worlds” @ Skarstedt Gallery

Last Saturday night, Upper East Side’s Skarstedt Gallery hosted the opening of one of the most exciting shows so far this art season – Japanese pop-art star Aya Takano’s “Reintegrating Worlds.” The exhibition, which is Takano’s second solo with the gallery, consists of a brilliant collection of 15 new paintings filled with fantastic scenes of waifish girls and all kinds of animals. Openings: Chloe Early – “Clouded Apollo” @ StolenSpace Gallery

Chloe Early’s (interviewed) solo show “Clouded Apollo” opened at StolenSpace Gallery last week in London. Just as we suspected after our studio visit earlier in the month, her new body of work was well-received with lots of fans attending to show their support. Chloe mixed buildings, sun-bathers, tanks, and what looked to be a common theme – roses and butterflies together in an pleasing eclectic composition. More images after the jump…

Last night, Greg Simkins aka Craola (interviewed) opened his show “The Pearl Thief” at the LA location of Gallery 1988. Featuring his largest painting to date (glimpses of which you saw in our studio visit) and a riddle/puzzle that lead to a prize of an original painting from Greg, show-goers left with plenty to talk about. “The Pearl Thief” painting (seen above), was pretty amazing. Openings: Yue Minjun – “Smile-isms” @ Arario Gallery (New York)

Last week saw the opening of a new exhibition of work by leading Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun. The show, which is presented at the New York location of Arario Gallery, is entitled “Smile-isms” and is comprised of lithographs, several statues and one large-scale painting, all featuring the grinning self-portraits for which Minjun is known. We were pleasantly surprised the other day when we stopped by for the opening of Nate Frizzell’s show at LeBasse Projects. Showing concurrently in the smaller gallery was “The Kids Are Alright,” essentially the younger up-and-coming talent of the LeBasse family – artists like Dominique Fung, Jeremy Asher Lynch, and Nimit Malavia. As anticipated, the highly praised “Stages” exhibition made it’s US debut yesterday in a beautiful pop-up space hosted by Deitch Projects in New York’s Soho district. As we mentioned when the show debuted in Paris (covered), “Stages” is a traveling exhibition curated by Nike and Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation to elevate awarenessÂ of theÂ fight against cancer with some of the art world’s most influential artists.
