Legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (renowned for movies such as Hell Boy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak) opened At Home With Monsters last weekend at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Openings: Cinta Vidal – “Gravities” @ Thinkspace

A couple weekends ago at Thinkspace, new paintings from Cinta Vidal collectively entitled Gravities were unveiled in their project room. The small selection of works featured her signature gravity defying globe like structures and their inhabitants. There was also a piece with a field of floating furniture which was mirrored by similar imagery on a wall mural the Spanish artist painted for the exhibition. Photo credit: Birdman Photos. On Thursday, July 21st, Pejac revealed his long awaited London solo show for a private viewing. Installed as a popup at the Londonewcastle Project Space on Redchurch Street, Law of the Weakest included around 30 pieces created in the last couple of months exclusively for this event. The visitors entered the main part of the show through a dark room in which a large ball pit was placed. On July 16th, Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting new works from Camille Rose Garcia in their main space. Phantasmacabre will be her first solo in LA since 2011 and will feature her gothic fairytale-like imagery that has become increasingly dark in her recent work. The locally-based artist’s mash up of subject matter is a result of her experiences growing up in Orange County and the associated visits to Disneyland and punk shows as well as vintage cartoons and William Burroughs’ cut-up writings and surrealist film. On June 25th, Thinkspace Gallery opened New Works, a double solo by artists Jeremy Fish and Jim Houser. Both artist built their careers through their love for drawing, music and skate culture, creating influential and distinctive works and graphics along the way. This show introduces their latest bodies of work. Featuring their signature styles and recognizable concepts, the fresh pieces are the results of years of drawing and keeping up with the subcultures they grew up with. Openings: KAWS – “BFF” @ Central Embassy (Bangkok)

A couple of days ago, Central Embassy in Bangkok unveiled the latest large-scale sculpture from KAWS, standing 8 meters tall outside their complex. Produced with the help of curator AllRightsReserved, the event also featured a plush version of the figure, which looked to be a cross between Elmo & The Cookie Monster, remixed the the Brooklyn-based artist’s double-x eyes and skull & cross bones. Last weekend, Galerie Itinerrance opened a solo show from Shepard Fairey (featured) that brought a brought full circle a project he started back in November of last year with an installation (covered) between the first and second floor of the Eiffel Tower entitled Earth Crisis. Curated by Tilt, the second edition of the Rose Beton Festival in Toulouse (FR) paid tribute to the graffiti scene. The festival kicked off with an exhibition at Chateau d’Eau featuring the iconic photographs by Martha Cooper & Henry Chalfont (interviewed) as well as emerging photographer Sylvain Fargot. The Musee des Abattoirs is then taken over with installations by Boris Tellegen (covered), Mist, and Craig Costello while Tilt brought back his Voyage Retour car installation that he created during his recent residency at Jardin Rouge in Marrakech.
