At this year’s Art Los Angeles Contemporary, visitors were greeted at the fair’s entrance with Judy Chicago’s dazzling performance installation, Sublime Environment. As part of Pacific Standard Time’s Performance and Public Art Festival, the large scale installation was created with 25 tons of dry ice, with help from the Silverlake non-profit, Materials & Applications, and a group of 40 volunteers. Last week in Texas, the International Museum of Art and Science hosted a selection of fiberglass and silicone creations from Colin Christian (interviewed). Made up of a series of his signature cyber-erotic sculptures, Fast Forward features a body of work inspired by the Colin’s love for “sci-fi movies, pinup girls, anime, ambient electronic music, and author, H.P. Last weekend, the outdoor fields and indoor hanger Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona were the venues for the hand-painted vintage planes of The Boneyard Project: Return Trip. AM was at Tony’s Gallery in Shoreditch on Thursday to see the first UK solo show by Olek (set-up and teaser photos here). The New York-based artist has been making the most of her extended London visit, transforming the ground floor of the gallery into a domestic setting filled with crocheted furniture and other household items. Last Thursday, New York’s Opera Gallery held an opening for their latest show entitled Making Faces. Openings: LUDO – “Nature’s Revenge” @ Wunderkammern Gallery

After a showing in Amsterdam last November, LUDO (interviewed) continues his exploration of his Nature’s Revenge theme with a new exhibition in Rome. Opening its doors to a new body of work last weekend, Wunderkammern Gallery was taken over by the Parisian street artist’s vengeful creatures in the form of his ad interventions, sculptures, paper pieces, and pastes over found objects. Over the weekend, Corey Helford presented new work by artist Eric Joyner (interviewed). The exhibition featured a collection of paintings that blended the artist’s attraction to classic sci-fi motifs with a sense of the mundane which often referenced the use of donuts. Other competing factors in his visual imagery include the use of landscapes and the natural environment. Earlier this month, the Buckwild Gallery brought 7th letter member EVOL and Fame City writer TEAL together for a special event highlighting their different styles and their own brand of art. Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. Last week in Berlin, Gestalten hosted installation artist Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) first solo show in Germany, Glazed Paradise. The American artist staged his startlingly lifelike sculptural works throughout the space to the delight of showgoers as they bravely roamed the gallery area. Also rounding out the night were limited edition offerings of his famous tape sculptures, photographs of his street work, as well as a lecture presentation from Jenkins.
