Dan May New Paintings And Prints

Today at noon (Eastern time), Dan May (interviewed) will be releasing some new prints online on his webstore. The limited editions are priced affordably, but for those interested, you can also email him – danmayinfo (at) gmail.com – about buying the original paintings that the images are taken from. As usual, the new work features his whimsical creatures, rendered beautifully utilizing a vivid palette. Discuss Dan May here.

In collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris is currently presenting the first exhaustive retrospective devoted to Jeff Koons in Europe until the 27th of April. Tomorrow, January 27th, at a random time between 10 am and 12 noon PST, a some collaborative prints will be released between Shepard Fairey and Cleon Peterson. Featuring the Pattern of Corruption used in one of their joint murals in Miami’s Wynwood district (covered), painted during Basel Week Miami, the striking imagery will be released in 3 different pairs of colorways – Black/White, Gold/Black and Blue/White. Last week, AM attended the LA Art Show to see what the fair had to offer collectors in Los Angeles. Celebrating their 20th year anniversary, the event featured over 120 galleries representing 22 countries including the a special section called Littletopia (like last year) featuring galleries promoting the sub genre of the new contemporary art movement, low brow art, pop surrealism, as well as street & urban art. Previews: Spazuk – “Récidive” @ Galerie C.O.A

On the 26th of January, Galerie C.O.A in Montral will be opening Récidive, a solo show by the “fire painter” Spazuk. The distinctive technique he uses is called fumage, which allows him to use the flame of a candle or torch as a “paintbrush” to create his paintings with trails of soot. He later manipulates these trails by using various needles, razors, and makeshift bird feather pens, which result in incredibly detailed black and white works on canvas, panel or paper. Following the success of the 2014 exhibition Futurismo Ancestral: An Offering to Peru by Sixe Paredes (covered), the collaborative arts organization Approved by Pablo curated a new exhibition entitled Mapping The City in London, running until 15 February.
