Recap: Kenny Scharf @ Pace Prints

Pace Prints recently unveiled an exhibition of fresh works by New York legend Kenny Scharf. The self-titled show consisted of unique silkscreen prints on which his signature cartoon-like faces were depicted three-dimensionally from painted and sculpted paper pulp. This new technique brings to life another aspect of his classic characters, who already exhibit vivid colors and wild emotions. Jacob Lewis Gallery recently held it’s inaugural exhibition with New York artist Inka Essenhigh. Entitled Comet Dust & Crystal Shards, this new body of work was created over the span of a calendar year with the focus of seasons as inspiration of each composition. With her surreal touch and unique creative process of blending external and internal influences, Essenhigh again takes our breath away with a stunning series of magical paintings. Almost two years after her last show in New York, Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) has unveiled new paintings at AFA NYC. Entitled Sweet & Low, the fresh body of work continues the exploration of her delicate female characters in a land of dessert. As seen commonly in the San Marino-based painter and illustrator’s work, the innocence of the setting is balanced by an undercurrent of dark themes seen when her imagery is examined more closely. Six months after the initial announcement, Jeremy Geddes decided to go ahead with a new timed release for the Hypostasis print. Made after an original painting that was shown at the Juxtapoz Magazine 20th anniversary show (covered), as a part of his Cosmonaut series, the image is a sequel or a revisited version of his iconic Red Cosmonaut piece.
