Openings: Dave Kinsey – “New Works” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On Thursday night, AM attended the much anticipated opening of Dave Kinsey’s solo exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery. This being the largest body of works which Dave has created to date, it encompassed both rooms of JLG’s Chelsea gallery space – space well spent as Kinsey’s latest batch of artistic goodness entranced the audience with his signature style, mix of colors, textures and striking compositions. Aside from the consistent quality we have come to expect in this body of work which we previewed in our […]

Openings: James Jean – The “Birds and Boys” Series @ 3.1 Phillip Lim – Fashion’s Night Out

High fashion and fine art was exhibited in a seamless mix as James Jean unveiled his Birds and Boys series at 3.1 Phillip Lim during Fashion’s Night Out in West Hollywood. Jean’s fantastically cool portraits of the famous and the beautiful of Los Angeles were hung throughout the store, occupying the same racks as Lim’s elegantly designed threads. The city’s most stylish and hip made it out and the proceeds from the sale of the artist’s work helps to benefit the LACMA Costume Council.  With […]

Preview: Herakut – “Hope’s Reply” @ Lebasse Projects

This Saturday night, German duo Herakut will be opening their show, “Hope’s Reply”, at LeBasse Projects. As opposed to previous exhibitions where they have gone all out on installations, but this time, the new body work work will be displayed in what’s billed as a more “white walls” setting. Take a look at some more teaser shots sent to us from CampBarbossa after the jump…

Fame Fest ’10: Escif

Angelo, mastermind behind Studiocromie and the Fame Festival, has seen his fair share of street artists and their work. So, when he’s impressed with the level of addiction a certain artist has to painting walls, you know that’s saying something. The latest artist to roll through Grottaglie is the Spain-based Escif, whose prolific work we are sure you are familiar with by now. More after the jump…

Openings: Kent Williams – “Eklektikos” @ EVOKE Contemporary

Kent Williams’ “Eklektikos” opened up a couple weeks ago at the EVOKE Contemporary in New Mexico. Fans who live other parts of the country definitely missed out witnessing in person a truly great show. The Los Angeles-based artist brought with him a collection of beautifully rendered paintings filled with detail, color, and emotive power. More opening photos after the jump…

Openings: Alex Gross – “Discrepancies” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

With the art world bringing out their big guns this month to kick off the art season, Jonathan LeVine comes out of the gate strong with a new collection of paintings from Alex Gross. As he mentioned in his interview with us leading up to the show, he wanted to push the themes from his last show at the NY gallery (two years ago) even further. As you will see, a good half of the new body of work dealt with the prevalence of technology […]

Studio Visits / Preview: Mark Dean Veca – “When The Shit Hits The Fan” @ Western Project

A little while back, we stopped by Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) studio to get a glimpse at his new body of work “When The Shit Hits The Fan” – a kind of metaphor for the state of the world today. The show opening next Saturday night, Sept 18th, at Western Project will be his first solo show in Los Angeles and is a collection of thematically cohesive paintings he has been working on since his show at Jonathan LeVine last year. With some of his […]

Openings: Ron English – “Status Factory” @ Opera Gallery

Last night, AM attended the private viewing of Ron English (featured), latest exhibition “Status Factory”. With the sponsorship of Opera Gallery, the pop-up exhibition was held in an extravagant triplex retail space in the heart of New York’s Soho district. As we showed you in the setup, the location was transformed by Ron & gang over the course of a week to give the audience the full experience of “Popaganda“. The artwork seemed bigger in person than our preview indicated, especially in rooms with interactive sculptures […]

Openings: Andrew Schoultz – “Compound Eyes on the World” @ Marx & Zavattero

In San Francisco, headlining the official opening of the art season last night was Andrew Schoultz’ new body of work at Marx & Zavattero. “Compound Eyes on the World” is Schoultz’ second solo at the gallery and draws attention to the vast amount and chaotic nature of information in the modern world. His signature kinetic imagery and the array of mixed media works, paintings, drawings, sculpture & installations lend itself perfectly to the themes he is exploring and leads inevitably to the question of how […]
