Openings – Kris Kuksi and Christy Langer “Meticulous Engagements” @ Shooting Gallery

AM recently attended the opening for Kris Kuksi and Christy Langer’s “Meticulous Engagements” (previewed) at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. Langer, who first caught our eye at Basel last year and is pictured above, brought a nice mix of large and small resin sculptures, examining the violence and fragility of nature. Kuksi’s works were as impressive as always and though we took plenty of detail pictures, they really need to be seen in person to be believed.  “Meticulous Engagements” ends in two days, the […]

Certainly, if you have an interest in this genre […]

Preview: Thomas Doyle – “Collateral Damage” @ Lebasse Projects

New York based artist, Thomas Doyle (featured), has a new body of work prepared for his show this weekend, April 24th, at Lebasse Projects entitled “Collateral Damage.” The appropriately named show features a series of exquisite sculptures of houses set in precariously impossible positions such as upside down and teetering on a cliff on all sides. Yet despite his captivating play on architecture, what draws collectors to Doyle’s work is his ability to capture the human condition and their emotions when thrown into environs that […]

Streets: Banksy in San Francisco?

Hmm, with the series of premieres already making it’s way across the nation for Banksy’s “Exit Through the Gift Shop” including LA (covered) and New York (covered), it’s only natural to assume that Banksy could easily whiz up the Cali coast to No Cal and hit up San Francisco. We got a tip from our friends at Warholian that this could be the latest piece from the masked bomber. Located in the Chinatown area, it looks very familiar… What do you think? Discuss Banksy here.

Who knows, if you become friends, you might get a gift from him one day like this beautiful […]

Setup: David Choe – “Nothing to Declare” @ LAzarides Beverly Hills

Earlier in the week, we gave you a sneak peek of the show from inside David Choe’s (featured) secret LA studio. But, our friends at LAzarides 90210 also got us a quick look at the install progress in the luxe Beverly Hills space. As you can see from the picture above, David didn’t forget his famous watercolors. Don’t worry, we’ll get you even more pictures at the “Nothing to Declare” opening event but for now, check out more install pics after the jump…

Teaser: Chloe Early @ Corey Helford Gallery

The last we saw Chloe Early (interviewed), she had just opened her solo show, “Clouded Apollo”, last November in the UK. Now, it looks like she has started working on her next show slated to open in October at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. We’ll have more as the show gets nearer, but for now, take a look at this in progress piece… Discuss Chloe Early here.

Preview: Mark Ryden – “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

Ever since we saw the first stunning painting at Art Basel for Mark Ryden’s upcoming show, we have had the date, April 29th, marked down on our calendars. Subsequent peeks at a timelapse of that piece, “Incarnation” and a look at one of the most beautiful show invites ever have only served to increase our artlust even more. And now, it appears some preview images have leaked for the show opening next week at Paul Kasmin Galley in New York which have pushed expectations of […]

Openings: ‘Fresh Cream 2’ @ Opus Art

AM went along to Opus Art’s opening of group show “Fresh Cream 2” (previewed) at its Newcastle gallery last week to check out the collective wares of Lex Thomas, Hush, Ghost of a Dream, Charlotte Bracegirdle, Alexandra McLain, Hector de Gregorio, Karl de Vroomen and Teresa Duck. The show brought together a great level of variance in the outputs, mediums and techniques used by the artists involved. Read on for our take on the show, as well as our pictures from the opening after the […]

FAME Festival ’10: Swoon

Well, shortly after announcing their lineup for 2010, this year’s FAME Festival is already underway. First to arrive were Swoon (interviewed) and Ben Wolf to participate in this annual Italian celebration of street art (take a look at our coverage of the 2009 event here). Unfortunately, Wolf’s work was destroyed before it was photographed but here are some photos of Swoon pasting up an old chapel as well as other parts of town. More images after the jump.
