Last Saturday night marked the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo at Copro Gallery, “Dismayland”. If you made the obvious connection between the name he chose for the show and the happiest place on earth, then you would be right. Coming in October, Karen Chau is set to make her debut with Sloan Fine Art and we’ve got special teaser images of some of the works that art going to be at the special Halloween showing. For those that may not immediately know the Chinese painter, look closer… You may recognize her style as she’s the creator of one of our favorite children’s cartoon Ni Hao, Kai-Lan currently on Nickelodeon. (Sorta reminds you of Hoho right?) Check out another image after the jump.

Spanish street artist Escif will be visiting the UK for a solo show at Pictures On Walls (POW) opening April 17th. As you can see from the image above, he’s already in town working on the streets in preparation for his “Around The Wall” show. Some of our lucky readers in Japan have already seen this limited edition book about Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyams’s (interviewed) career and artwork. The book was initially released regionally in Japan this past January, but now, this amazing book has finally made its way to the United States. The hardcover from Panorama publishing covers the past 5 years of Matsu’s career and is written in duo languages (English/Japanese) by curators from the Andy Warhol Museum, NYU and Tokyo. AM was lucky enough to be able to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Banksy’s “Exit Through The Gift Shop” earlier tonight at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. With the art community on high alert, the cavernous and exquisitely beautiful theater was filled (at least the first floor) with collectors, celebrities, pseudocelebrities, and knowledgeable street art fans. Charming Baker has got things set for his solo debut in New York city at New York Studio Gallery in the Lower East Side. The show, “Stupid has a new Hero”, looks to showcase more of Charming’s brush work with his abrasively interesting subject matter. It opens up May 14th and runs only two weeks.
