Openings: Amanda Visell – “Primeval Love” @ the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles

As mentioned in our preview, Amanda Visell’s exhibition, “Primeval Love” opened last Friday at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Because of the vintage feel to her paintings and the imagery she decided to work with, the show blended in perfectly with the surroundings. In fact, as you can see from the photo above, this was definitely one of most unique and eye-catching settings we have seen for an exhibition in a while. More images after the jump…

Interviews: Shawn Barber

As his upcoming show at NYC’s Joshua Liner gallery quickly approaches in just a couple weeks, Shawn Barber (featured) recently sat down with AM for a quick discussion on the art of getting, giving and painting tattoos. Known primarily for his sittings with tattoo legends and artists, Shawn’s latest exposition, “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle” looks to be no less than the stellar work we’ve come to expect, as evidenced by the teaser images he’s sent our way. Openings: Dale Grimshaw – “Arcana” @ Signal Gallery

Dale Grimshaw’s vibrant paintings were on full display last Friday when his new show opened at the Signal Gallery in London. On Thursday, AM attended the private screening of Banksy’s much anticipated documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop in New York City. This early preview was hosted at the pimp Tribeca Grand and was made possible by renowned director Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me & Where In The World Is Osama bin Laden?) who graciously hosted the screening. Tonight, a special show is opening up at Subliminal Projects. “Subject / Subject” is a show centered around showcasing some long time favorite and also upcoming female artists in a benefit for the Downtown Women’s Center.
