Openings: Skinner – “Worship Thee Kindly The Dark Hand That Guides Me” @ 111 Minna Gallery

Last Thursday, AM visited San Francisco’s 111 Minna Gallery to attend “Worship Thee Kindly The Dark Hand That Guides Me,” the first major solo show for Sacramento’s resident artist Skinner. Going balls to the mothereffin’ wall for this production, Skinner descended deep into the pits of hell, returning with a full body of fresh work, projected video, hand made dolls and complimentary 3-D glasses, making “Worship Thee Kindly…” a smashing success and one of the best shows to hit SF this year…  If you’re in […]

Update: Banksy “Summer Show” @ Bristol City Museum?

Looks like the resourceful people over at Bristol Street Art have perhaps confirmed what has been suspected to be the location of Banksy’s surprise show – Bristol’s City Museum on Queen’s Road.  They went as far as taking a picture through the small gap in the front doors.  According to them, it looks like something Banksy did in 2007 in Glastonbury.  Apparently a private viewing “may” be held on the 12th of June with a public viewing starting on the 13th of June (usual museum opening hours 10 […]

Preview: Sarah Joncas – “Beneath The Seams” & Kelly Vivanco – “The Conservatory” @ Thinkspace Gallery

AM is excited about the two shows opening tomorrow, June 12th, at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles, which include “Beneath The Seams” from Sarah Joncas and in the gallery’s project room, Kelly Vivanco’s “The Conservatory.” We’ve been fans of Sarah’s work ever since she hit the scene a couple of years ago. With a somewhat muted color palette, pieces with dark and moody overtones and her injection of herself in each of her pieces through painting characters resembling her own likeness, Joncas takes a unique […]

Yoshitomo Nara x YNG Collaboration – Basel Week Switzerland

Just as he did for his museum show at the BALTIC, LA show last year, and show in NY this year, Yoshitomo Nara teams up with YNG to present another stunning installation at this year’s Art Basel (Switzerland) in what appears to be joint venture between Blum & Poe, Marianne Boesky Gallery, and Tomio Koyama Gallery.  The distinctively Nara structure was seen at Art Unlimited, the exhibition for projects that transcend the classical art, including video projections, large-scale installations, massive sculptures and live performances.  More […]

Murakami x Pharrell x Jacob the Jeweler @ Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin – Basel Week Switzerland

Last time we were with Pharrell & Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, it was at Art Basel Miami. Over a half year later, they reveal this secret project at Art Basel Switzerland. Check this amazing collaboration between Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams and Jacob & Co – a mind blowing sculpture entitled “The Simple Things.” Think Superflat meets hip hop and Metroid. The sculpture is based on Murakami’s signature “DOB” character and features an onyx fiberglass husk with a pearlescent glow to compliment the vibrant rainbow colors which […]

Interviews/Preview: Greg Gossel – “Happy Endings” @ The Shooting Gallery

AM recently had the opportunity to sit down with Minneapolis-based artist Greg Gossel as he was preparing for his upcoming and massively ambitious solo show, “Happy Endings.” Greg chatted with us about the evolution of his art, themes of his current show, his inspirations and even addressed the comparisons that have long been made between him and the NYC collective Faile. “Happy Endings” opens this Saturday at The Shooting Gallery. Full interview and preview pics after the jump.

Openings: Joe Ledbetter – “Death & Taxes” and Nathan Spoor – “The Glass Menagerie” @ Copro Gallery

AM dropped by Copro Gallery this past Saturday night to be at the openings of our friends Joe Ledbetter (above) and Nathan Spoor (below).  Ledbetter’s “Death & Taxes” show opening drew an impressive crowd. In addition to displaying a wonderful new set of paintings, Joe unveiled his new book “Creatures of Habit.” As an added bonus, Joe also offered his fans many of his older art prints and vinyl figures. This was no secret however, as fans lined up outside of the gallery as early […]

Teaser: Banksy – “Summer Show”

After weeks of rumors, it’s official! Banksy’s “Summer Show” opens this Saturday, June 13th. Word is that the show will be held in his hometown of Bristol. Keep it locked on AM for more details.

Openings: “Self-Portraits” @ Circle Culture Gallery

It’s always interesting to see how an artist views themselves, especially in the context of their own art. “Self Portraits” (previewed) which opened recently in Berlin at Circle Culture Gallery is based exactly on this concept. Each artist created a piece in their distinctive style that they felt best represented themselves. Take a look at what they came up with, after the jump…

Update: Swoon – “The Swimming Cities of Serenissima”

Last time we interviewed Swoon, she was getting ready to set sail on her latest journey (The Swimming Cities of Serenissima) to Venice with her hand crafted fleet of ships. Thanks to our boys at Vandalog, we caught up with Swoon just as her mini-armada arrived for the Bienalle in Venice.  Here are some pics of Swoon and her crew as they docked in in the city of canals. More photos after the jump.
