When we last talked to James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed), he was working on the installations for his show at Redux Contemporary.  Next up is a two-person show with his friend Mike Giant at Paris gallery Magda Danysz where Dalek continues to further explore geometric abstraction of his work.  Take a look at some images after the jump…

After hanging with Ron English at Dr. Sketchy’s, he invited AM over to his Jersey City studio to check out his upcoming solo show at Elms Lester. The show entitled “Lazarus Rising” is Ron’s first ever UK solo and is his second with Elms Lester. The show opens to the general public May 8th and will run through June 6th. Interviews/Releases: ABOVE

ABOVE, the prolific street artist best known for his wooden arrow mobiles, clever wordplay pieces and most recently, his social and political commentary stencils, has long been putting up work throughout the world that both brings huge smiles and invokes serious contemplation. As long time fans, AM was thrilled to gain further insight into ABOVE’s recent work, thoughts on the economic crisis and his whirlwind journey during his “South Central” tour. To coincide with this interview, ABOVE just released a hand-pulled screen print on his […]

Openings: Conor Harrington & Chloe Early – “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

An enthused crowd was on hand at Kinsey/DesForges for the opening of “Chasing Castles” (previewed), the first showing of a full-body of work in the United States by London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early (interviewed). Both made the trip across the pond for the opening and happily chatted with fans about their work and the underlying message behind their rich, multi-layered, vibrantly colored pieces. For the show Harrington continued his exploration of symbols of power, masculinity, and their related societal expectations through his […]

See all of the in-progress photos after the jump.

Teaser: Josh Keyes – “Sprout” @ David B. Smith Gallery

One of our favorite artists, Josh Keyes is opening a show next month at David B. Smith Gallery (interviewed) entitled “Sprout.”   After selling out his last solo (held at OKOK Gallery – now apparently Ambach & Rice), his rabid fan base is already chomping at the bit to see his newest body of work.  From the exciting images we have seen so far, they will not be disappointed, as Keyes will be revisiting some old themes as well as exploring some new ideas. Take a look at another piece as well as some […]

Preview/Interviews: Conor Harrington & Chloe Early – “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early have a joint exhibition opening tomorrow, Saturday April 18th, at the influential Kinsey/DesForges gallery in Culver City. Both have shown work individually in group shows in the United States before, but “Chasing Castles” marks the first showing of a full body of work stateside for both artists. It is also the first time the pair’s work has been exhibited together. AM loves the multi-layered aesthetic of these talented artists, who took some time to answer a few […]

Takashi Murakami – Inochi Exhibit @ Kaikai KiKi

It seems that some shows get all the glitz & glamour, and some shows just slide in & out without much ruckus. But one things for sure, high profile or not, Takashi Murakami and his Kaikai Kiki juggernaut do not half-step anything. Takashi’s latest show “Inochi” at Tokyo’s Kaikai KiKi Gallery ended last night, and AM has some pics from the land of the rising sun. More after the jump.

Preview: AIKO – “Love Monster” @ Joshua Liner

This Saturday, Joshua Liner will host the opening of “Love Monster,” Japanese-born Brooklyn-based artist Aiko’s first solo show with the gallery and her largest exhibition to date. Since parting ways with street art collective Faile in 2006, Aiko has been steadily developing as a solo artist, utilizing her substantial stencil, spraypaint and wheatpaste technique to create vibrant large-scale mixed media works. Her imagery is often sexually charged depictions of women culled from comics, pulp novel covers and even soft-core porn. However Aiko is able to […]

Openings: Draw @ Shooting Gallery SF

The mother of all drawing shows opened last weekend at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco.  Featuring drawings from over 400 artists, the DRAW show is definitely one of the largest of its kind featuring artists we are all familiar with.  The exhibition started in 2006 at Fuse Gallery in NY, then to SXSW in 2007, and last year it was held at StolenSpace in London.  Make sure you stop by for a look if you are in the bay area but if you aren’t, […]
