Preview: Kuksi & Rocha @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Opening shows tomorrow at Joshua Liner Gallery are two artists whose work couldn’t be more different, yet are interesting in their own way. In Gallery I, Kris Kuksi’s Imminent Utopia showcases his intricate mixed-media assemblages made from “model kits, injection-molded toy soldiers and animals, plastic skulls, knick-knack figurines, and mechanical parts.” The size and detail of some of these works have to be seen in person to be believed – AM will be bringing you opening pics, which should give you more of an idea […]

Preview: Travis Louie @ Merry Karnowsky (Berlin)

Travis Louie has a show opening in Berlin on November 22 entitled Inhuman Oddities at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery; also opening at the gallery is Kill Pixie’s Super Systems. It will be a busy November for Travis as he will be exhibiting in NY at the end of the month (but more on this later). Judging from the images of the paintings and the pre-sketches he sent us, this show will focus on his fantastical creatures (like the turnip head seen above) rather than his […]

Openings: Dreamscapes @ Definition Gallery

Kim at Definition Gallery forwarded us some images from their group show Dreamscapes, which includes some artists that we think are headed for bigger things like Michael Page, Martin Wittfooth, Dan May and Andy Kehoe (seen above). We like Page’s storytelling, Wittfooth’s textures, May’s linework, and Kehoe’s wonderful landscapes. These artists all paint surreal scenes and creatures from deep within their imaginations, hence the title of the show. More photos after the jump.

Releases: Banksy Print – Nola

Guess who’s back…? Banksy and POW have just released a new print “Nola” for all the fans that have been waiting patiently all year. This print was based on his recent New Orleans work “Rain Girl”. “Are you tired of looking out the window at the grey and the rain? Then why not draw the curtains, curl up on the sofa and gaze lovingly at this cheerful little number. It’s the latest print from the pseudonymous mister Banksy and its called ‘Nola’.” -POW It’s been […]

Preview/Interviews: Shag @ Jonathan Levine

Shag is at it again… this time he’s living it up in the Big Apple. Fresh from his recent Baby Tattooville retreat where AM met him, JoSH AGle (aka: SHAG) has a hip new show at Jonathan Levine. (Nov 22nd – Dec 20th) This time, Shag is giving us an official “peep” at the elegant beauties and chic lifestyles for the aptly named theme: Voyeur. This is sort of an introspective show for Shag, for he was once a Voyeur; which led the way for […]

Close-Up: Faile “Prayer Wheels” and “Circular Palettes”

In our recent review of Faile’s extraordinary show “Lost in Glimmering Shadow’s,” we briefly touched on the new “Prayer Wheels” and “Circular Palettes” which were premiered in the UK. AM now brings you an closer look at these two beautiful hand produced mediums! Faile has really taken urban medium to another level by infusing their “spin” on an age old spiritual instrument. True to the original spiritual Prayer Wheels found in Asia, the detailed graphic carvings on the Prayer Wheels are designed to spin around and be […]

Releases: Greg “Craola” Simkins Mini Prints

Gallery 1988 is releasing a new mini print set in December featuring the work of Greg “Craola” Simkins. There will be 300 sets made of prints including “Winter’s Knight”, “Night Knight”, “White Knight” with a special 4th chase print that will be included in 50 of the sets randomly (17% chance). We would guess that the chase print will also be based on a painting of his “White Knight” character, perhaps even from his current show “It Wanders West” at Gallery 1988 LA. Even more […]

Audrey Kawasaki “timed release” print

In response to all her loyal fans who participated but missed out in yesterday’s sold out print release of “She Who Dares” (previewed), Audrey is deliberating the possibility of bringing back the “timed release” print in an effort to get her work into the homes of her supportive fans. (Her last timed release was last November’s “Mizuame“.) The edition size of a “timed release” is based on a given time frame, instead of a predetermined print run. So all orders will be fulfilled as long […]

NYC’s pre-Thanksgiving art feast

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and AM is already in a festive (read: tongue-in-cheek) mood thinking about the bountiful meal that is the main attraction of the holiday. But even with our mind turning to delicious turkey and pie, we can’t resist the cornucopia of artistic delights being generously offered this November by the galleries of New York City. Let’s give thanks for the three-course feast for the eyes we are about to receive, after the jump.

Openings: Chloe Early @ Stolenspace

A fast rising star in the UK art scene, Chloe Early opened her solo show Ladies and Gentleman We Are Spinning in Space this weekend at StolenSpace Gallery in London. Chloe’s fantastical works provide a window into a blended world where abstract meets architectural backdrops. Using linen or aluminum mediums, Chloe weaves environments where reality/fantasy, urban/jungle converge and intertwine. Her pieces often use a human (often a diver) to work in parallel with the world it inhabits to create her dreamy snapshots. This body of work […]
