Last week, AM had the opportunity to drop by Eric White’s Brooklyn studio, and got a sneak peak of his space and some of the work for his upcoming exhibit “LP,” opening at Sloan Fine Art Sept. 12. As the title implies, the show will consist of White’s interpretations of classic album coversâ€”more specifically, those from before 1983, the year when he got his first CD player. On September 10, the Tufts University Art Gallery in Medford, MA (Boston) will open its Fall season with a must-see exhibition entitled “Sacred Monsters: Everyday Animism in Contemporary Japanese Art and Anime.” The show examines representations of mythical spirits, gods and other mutant, sentient beings in contemporary Japanese art and film as expressions of animist belief, through fine art and film. Following last month’s sold out show by El Mac, FIFTY24SF returns with another solid show, “Strange Fruit” by the Date Farmers.Â AM swung by the gallery to check out the installation; consisting of a variety of mixed media pieces, “Strange Fruit” is looking to be another great show by Lynzy and Upper Playground, opening tonight. 111 Minna will be presenting their latest show, “Neighborhood SF,” with the opening scheduled for tonight.Â Curated by Martin Olive and Ryan Malley, “Neighborhoods” is easily looking like one of the better group shows this year.Â Having SF artists interpret their respective neighborhoods is a great concept, and when you’ve got the likes of Jeremy Fish, Sylvia Ji, N8 Van Dyke, Mike Giant and David Choong Lee involved, well, let’s just say it takes the boring out of neighboring artists…. Fresh off his show in San Francisco, Shawn Barber is already set to open another show, this time in Canada. In “Life Size,” a joint show with Turf One, Barber will be gracing us with more of his tattoo “portraiture” that we have come to know and love. Recently we teased you with a shot fromÂ Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) studio for her upcoming show “Nectar” at StolenSpace. Now, we bring you a closer look as her UK debut on September 3rd draws near.
