Preview: Mostly Memory @ Thinkspace

Thinkspace has been very busy. First, their stellar lineup at the Gen Arts fair at Basel Week, (here) then right back in LA with a new show: Mostly Memory. This exhibit showcases two talented urban artists: Armsrock (Denmark) and Elbow-Toe (NYC).  We have no doubt the gallery will be transformed with some crazy installations that are already in progress.  Make sure you don’t miss the opening reception on Friday, Dec 12th (7-11pm). Thanks to Thinkspace/Sour Harvest, we gathered some preview images of their work for […]

Preview/Interviews: Matt Dangler @ M Modern

Matt Dangler’s “Out from the Whirlwind” opens at M Modern on December 12th in Palm Springs.  Since we last talked to Matt (where he shared an image with us explained the theme of the show) we know many of you have been itching to see more of the body of work.  We managed to get a couple more images for you, but you will have to wait until the show to see all of the of the paintings (please contact M Modern Gallery to be […]

Preview: Vivisect Playset V @ Gallery 1988 SF

The fifth installment of Vivisect Playset is opening up this Friday, December 5th at Gallery 1988 SF (7-10 pm). Luke Chueh (curator since 2004) has said this will be the second to last of this annual show (last one being next year).  Also dropping will be the Greg “Craola” Simkins mini-print set that we had previously talked about – good luck for all those hunting the chase original drawings (example of this as well as full list of artists and preview images we have gathered […]

Preview: Jonathan LeVine @ Scope Miami/Aqua Wynwood

After not participating in art fairs for a while, gallerist Jonathan LeVine decided to double-down this year by showing in not one, but two Miami fairs. At Scope Miami, LeVine will be exhibiting a solo show by GQ Artist of the Year, Shepard Fairey. And at Aqua Wynwood, LeVine has two booths: one showing works by Ray Caesar, Xiaoqing Ding and Adam Wallacavage, and another with a solo show of WK Interact. The above pics were all that AM was provided with, but we’ll be […]

Preview: New Image Art @ Aqua Hotel Miami

Like last year, LA’s New Image Art will be down in Miami to participate in the Aqua Hotel fair. The intimate and accessible setting of a hotel room is a great place to chat art with the gallery’s knowledgeable owner, Marsea Goldberg, and to peruse works by her impressive roster of artists. This year, New Image will be showing Bast, Kelsey Brookes, The Date Farmers, Judith Supine, Anthony Lister, Neckface, Swoon and Deanna Templeton, among others. See preview images of pieces that Marsea will be […]

Preview: “Looking Glass” @ Basel Miami (2008) – Part II

Andrew from Thinkspace has sent over some more images for part II of our preview for his “Looking Glass” show during Art Basel week. We would have to say the crown jewel would have to be the piece that Audrey Kawasaki posted on her blog last weekend. This piece was part of her installation for her “Drawing Room” show but was not completed at that time if you remember. See more pieces from the show after the jump … and check out part I of […]

Preview: Joshua Liner Gallery @ Scope Miami

Joshua Liner Gallery was nice enough to send us some images of works that the gallery is showing at this year’s Scope Miami art fair. Liner has a strong bill for Scope, showing Aiko, Kris Kuksi and Matzu—all artists who have already reached some level of success, and whose art will no doubt be well-received by the throngs of art collectors from around the world. From the preview pics, it looks like Aiko and Matzu have each contributed several bold, large-scale paintings; images of Kuksi’s […]

Preview: Chris Berens @ Roq La Rue

Like something out of a lucid dream, Chris Berens’ paintings are as enigmatic and imaginative as they come. Both from a technical perspective as well as an aesthetic viewpoint, there is something wonderfully amorphous and endless about his work. His art appears as sinister as it does beautiful, teetering that fantastical line between foreign yet familiar, gorgeous yet grotesque, bizarre yet natural. With certain elements appearing crystal clear and others blurred, it’s as if they were representations of a person attempting to transcribe the images […]

Preview: Jeff Soto @ Riverside Art Museum

AM  was able to stop by last week to check out Jeff Soto’s installation of his show at the Riverside Art Museum. We aren’t able to show you everything as we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise, but we do have some tasty images to keep you happy until opening night – December 13th (6-9 pm). As you can see from the photos, the museum has given Jeff ample space to work with for his first museum show – and he has taken full advantage with some of […]
