After showing in his hometown of Detroit last year, Glenn Barr now gets set to showcase his newest work (teased) at The 4th Wall Gallery. Preview: Mark Dean Veca – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Projects

After an impressive showing at Jonathan LeVine in September, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) starts off 2010 with a group show. “Cherry Pie” opens on January 16th at Western Project in their new location with Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young along with MDV adding to his pop iconography library with his rendition of Mr. Monopoly. Preview: Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana – “Desensitized” @ Copro Gallery

Brian Viveros and Dan Quintana are set to open a dual show tonight entitled “Desensitized” with collaborative (like the painting above) and individual works. In what seems to be a perfect match in styles, both artists will be bringing their cigarette-smoking, gun-slinging, bad-ass women to Copro Gallery for all to worship and enjoy. Preview: “Further” Group Show @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Tomorrow night, the Joshua Liner Gallery will host “Further,” a group exhibition featuring works by artists Damon Soule, David Choong Lee, MARS-1, Nome Edonna, Oliver Vernon, Robert Hardgrave and Tomokazu Matsuyama. The exhibition coincides with the release of a new book of the same name that brings together the seven artists and their varied takes on contemporary abstraction, mysticism, futurism, and surrealism. This Saturday night, January 9th, Krista Huot (interviewed) returns to Gallery 1988 in San Francisco with a new body of work. The solo show, entitled “Nepenthe” or translated as “drug of forgetfulness” mentioned in ancient Greek mythology appears to be loosely based on various fairytales such as Snow White, Alice In Wonderland, Rapunzel, Cinderella among others. Krista is also planning on painting the walls of the gallery to look like a storybook forest so we are looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. […]

Preview: John Casey – “Hope Springs Internal” @ POVevolving Gallery

Athens’ The Breeder graciously sent us some preview images for “Crooked Aisles,” Ryan McGinley’s first solo show in Greece. The exhibition opening January 14 will consist of a varied selection of new and old photographs, including images from McGinley’s summer road trip and “Moonmilk” series, as well as black and white portraits.
