Check out this little in-progress shot of the Ernesto Yerena’s “Che Guevara” piece. Pretty bad-ass take on the famed Latin American revolutionary. This original artwork is a 30″ x 44″Â HPMÂ with paper collageÂ painted from hand cut stencils. The style may be reminiscent of Obey’s classic handiwork.Â Well, maybe because Ernesto is actually Shepard Fairey’s studio assistant. AM dropped by Gallery 1988 LA this past Saturday and met up with our friend Greg “Craola” Simkins. Greg spent the afternoon treating everyone to live painting (previewed). Last night, Black Rat Press held a very special signing with Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant and Blade for the silver anniversary of “Subway Art.” Considered by many asÂ the “bible” of the graffiti movement, this historic book documents and in many ways glamorizes the graffiti movement in the 80’s NYC street art scene. Releases: David Choe – “Jimi Hendrix” Print

What’s with all the great limited edition releases recently? Here is David Choe holding up an epic print (his largest ever) of his Jimi Hendrix painting. Limited to 27 (also Hendrix’s age at death) and sized at 44″ x 51 5/8″, the print was priced at $600. Unfortunately, it already sold out before Choe even got the post up on his blog.

AM was in attendance at the “F%#k Cancer! We Love Justin” silent art auction held at Poketo studios. You may not recognize Justin VanHoy’s name, but you’ve undoubtedly seen the work he’s done as art director of Swindle and his contributions to Obey Clothing, Cobra Snake and Wired Magazine. All proceeds from the event went directly to support Justin’s recovery from a successful bone marrow transplant after a relapse of lukemia. In case you missed their first print with Mark Ryden, Roq La Rue just announced a second charitable print they did with Camille Rose Garcia. Again this is to raise money for David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust so every penny of this amazing print is going towards this great charity which helps endangered elephants and rhinos in Africa.
