NuArt ’15: Video Recap

The 15th anniversary NuArt Festival in Stavanger, Norway, concluded early this month and by all accounts was a huge success. The festival’s organizers reported record-breaking attendance for the main Nuart exhibition at Tou Scene (covered), as well as an overwhelmingly positive response to Nuart Plus—the festival’s symposium of talks by artists, academics and others on subjects pertaining to street art. To wrap up AM’s coverage of Nuart 2015, here are a few new videos that give a great overview of the festival, as well as […]

Rewind: Jul 14 – Oct 25

This latest edition of our Rewind article is headlined by a trailer for a new short film by JR (interviewed) starring Robert De Niro. Entitled Ellis, the footage follows the Academy Award Winning actor as he stars as an immigrant whose pursuit of a new life expired at Ellis Island. Showing: Paul Wackers – “New Alphabet” @ Alice Gallery

New Alphabet, a solo from Paul Wackers will be showing through the rest of the week in Brussels at Alice Gallery. His imagery is almost collage-like in the way he puts together everyday objects, plants, and abstract shapes into one cohesive composition. Along with his signature color-filled paintings that can be seen as a modern take on still life portraits, he also produced some pieces that were in black and white. Streets: JR / Nuit Blanche (Toronto)

Earlier this month, this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche opened up to the public in Toronto. One of the participating artists this year is French photogapher JR (interviewed) with several projects to engage his fans in Canada. One of these is seen above, the continuation of the TED winner’s Inside Out project where people are asked to have their photos taken in large scale black & white format at a mobile photo booth and then pasted as public art or for some political motive in certain instances. In this case, the […]

As you will see in the footage below, the highlight of the show will definitely be the massive 100 meter long painting. Discuss Takashi Murakami here.

Rime Sues Moschino & Jeremy Scott Over Katy Perry’s Met Gala Dress

Like Maya Hayuk earlier this year, Joseph Tierney aka Rime has also filed suit for copyright infringement. The Brooklyn-based graffiti artist alleges that Moschino and its designer Jeremy Scott imitated a graffiti tag that he painted on a Detroit building for Katy Perry’s Met Gala dress. Not only did they allegedly take the VandalsEYES imagery and his signature without his permission but they also added the Moschino and Jeremy Scott brand names in a spray-paint style as if part of the original work. You be the judge. Discuss Rime […]
