Riusuke Fukahori and his amazing three-dimensional paintings have been selected as our Art Focus this week. With incredible patience and with layer by layer of paint and poured resin, Fukahori builds up these incredible life-like creations of his favorite subject – goldfish. When the 3D pieces are placed in buckets and tubs, the illusion is complete. The Japanese painter just closed an exhibition at ICN Gallery in London and you can check out more photos here. Take a look at the video detailing his process as […]

After hitting up the new Facebook headquarters at the behest of Mark Zuckerberg, David Choe (featured) headed over to Mile-High City for the Terminal Kings project at the Denver International Airport. While that event (more on this later) also features the work of Sam Flores and Highgraff, David also brought along his friends, artists DVS-1 and Joseph To, to get in on the fun with some high energy collaborations. Not too long ago, the collaboration between artists El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) produced a spectacular mural that took place at the KROQ studios in Los Angeles, California (covered). It was a project which greatly combined the talent of these two artists to produce a music-themed mural. Now the two have once again come together to produce a mural which not only displays their incredible technique but more importantly, it is a project which pays respect to their late friend DASH 2000, a former member […]

Late last year during the holidays, we brought you pictures from Dabs Myla‘s latest mural which took place in the Culver City of Los Angeles (covered). It turns out the project (set up through Branded Arts and Thinkspace Gallery) has a story behind it that could be just as interesting as the aesthetic value of the mural itself. Filmmaker and AM contributor Carlos Gonzalez documented the project from beginning to end and got a chance to hang out with the couple during this entire process. The result […]

As if they do not have enough problems in their lives already, the homeless in Southern California have had quite the struggle recently, ranging from being beaten by a famous frozen yogurt purveyor to being targeted, stalked, and killed by a military vet. News stories like these bring to the forefront that being homeless is still a very real problem for many and it does not only affect men and women that are down on their luck. Young boys and girls are also affected by […]

By now, everyone has probably seen the video that went viral which showed a group of people brutally beating a Chicago teenager. Thankfully, it sounds like the Asian victim of the racially motivated attack appears to not have sustained serious injuries. David Choe (featured) recently painted this tribute mural to hopefully bring attention to this issue as well as get some of these cowards put in jail if they can be recognized. See what he had to say after the jump…

Besides the work from Escif that we brought you in the last couple months, he has also updated his blog with some walls that we haven’t had a chance to show you. After enjoying these new pics, also take a look at some footage from the Nuart Festival back in October where the Spanish artist put up quite a bit of street work as well as filled a room with a flag based installation (covered). More murals and video after the jump…

The ever-busy Phlegm has painted another whimsical mural depicting his fascination with flying devices, with this being a wearable version. Wingsuit, with excellent placement, is only one of a recent slate of walls the Sheffield-based street artist has worked on while taking a break from working on drawings for his new book. A closer look after the jump…

Admirers of gems and photo-realistic painting technique will enjoy our Art Focus this week on Carly Waito. The Toronto-based artist and graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design chooses specimens of semi-precious gems and minerals, photographs them in macroscopic detail, and then renders them in oil paints with meticulous care. Her most recent showing was at the Narwhal Projects booth at the Aqua Fair during Art Basel Miami Week. More sample images after the jump…

While his compadre, Italian street artist Blu was painting up Buenos Aires (here, here, and here), it looks like Escif tagged along (you may also remember their back to back efforts together in Spain here) to work on some walls of his own. His contribution to the Argentinian city-scape is an entertaining step-by-step rendition of how to open a locked door with a credit-card. *Correction* this is a collaboration piece with Blu. More photos after the jump from Buenos Aires Street Art.
