The time had come for another Streets World Roundup here on AM. Leading things off is a complex new work of art from Felice Varini in Hasselt, Belgium for the “De Unie Hasselt-Genk” exhibition. Faith 47 recently spent a few days painting in Durban, South Africa, as part of the cultural program of the 25th World Congress on Architecture, UIA2014 Durban. For this event, she will be painting six walls on four of the supporting columns of the main freeway overpass adjacent to the Early Morning Market in Warwick. Only a couple days before the opening of his first museum show, Dissection, Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils finished this large outdoor piece in front of the Museu da Electricdade where the show will be held. As the last in a series of large works he created through the city, the final 360 degrees piece Panorama on the round water tank is one of his most elaborate ones yet. By transferring his scratched paper collage technique onto this large building, Vhils surely lifted up the quality of his work to another level. […]
Followers of KAWS and his pop culture infused abstractions have always been impressed with his clean lifework and impeccable attention to detail. Taking a look at his Brooklyn studio, designed by Wonderwall in 2013, one can see similarities in the street turned contemporary artist’s taste in architecture. Master muralist Aryz was recently in Granollers, Spain, where he spent more than two weeks working on this impressive new mural. Titled Priape and Dememter, the piece shows two Greek gods symbolizing fertility and nature. Slightly more realistic than the work we are used to from the Spanish artist, the imagery featured the mythological beings rendered with Spanish features. Southern California native, Jeff Soto (interviewed), recently traveled to Bordeaux, France where he had a chance to work on several art-related projects. First up is this wall he painted for the Darwin project and Spacejunk, his fourth mural in France (also see Lyon here & here).
