Rumor Mill: Deitch to head MOCA?

Some interesting chatter coming out ahead of the press conference on Monday to announce the Los Angeles MOCA’s new director. One of the top candidates is none other than Jeffrey Deitch, whose booth we recently visited at Art Basel Miami. If he’s confirmed (he’s got a good shot, seeing Eli Broad is probably backing him, two major galleries in LA back him – Javier Peres of Peres Projects and Blum & Poe, and his gallery confirms Deitch is in LA right now for “meetings”), it […]

Preview: Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana – “Desensitized” @ Copro Gallery

Brian Viveros and Dan Quintana are set to open a dual show tonight entitled “Desensitized” with collaborative (like the painting above) and individual works. In what seems to be a perfect match in styles, both artists will be bringing their cigarette-smoking, gun-slinging, bad-ass women to Copro Gallery for all to worship and enjoy. In addition to the art on the walls, the event will feature a loop of Brian Viveros’ films “Dislandia” and “Southern,” a custom made sculpture of one of the paintings, cocktail servers […]

Ron English x Simpsons Episode

Looks like the animated world of TV and our art world collide again (see Souther Salazar x Family Guy & Shepard Fairey x South Park). This time, it’s Ron English (featured) commissioned to create a variation on his Homer/Jackson Pollock motif – in 10 seconds. Make sure you check out The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special — In 3-D! On Ice!, airing this Sunday, January 10 on Fox. Via Ron English Juxtapoz Blog. Discuss Ron English here.

Another pic after the jump… *edit we unfortunately published this articles slightly after midnight when it was supposed to be published before midnight, the actual date of release was 1/8/09 (today) – apologies for the mistake*

Preview: Krista Huot – “Nepenthe” @ Gallery 1988 (SF)

This Saturday night, January 9th, Krista Huot (interviewed) returns to Gallery 1988 in San Francisco with a new body of work. The solo show, entitled “Nepenthe” or translated as “drug of forgetfulness” mentioned in ancient Greek mythology appears to be loosely based on various fairytales such as Snow White, Alice In Wonderland, Rapunzel, Cinderella among others. Krista is also planning on painting the walls of the gallery to look like a storybook forest so we are looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. […]
