When we previewed Yoko Tanaka’s show that ends soon at David B. Smith Gallery, it didn’t register how large some of her paintings actually were until we saw some opening pics. Currently showing at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is a major exhibition from gunpowder artist extraordinaire Cai Guo Qiang. As you can see in the video above, Qiang demonstrated his explosive technique by creating some of his signature pieces (also seen in the “Stages” show) in person. We previewed Ryan McGinley’s works in this year’s Art Basel Miami previously, now prepare yourselves for pictures from Team Gallery’s booth at the fair. No matter how you picture in your heads how the photographs from small compressed jpegs look framed and in person, it can not prepare you for how fantastic they truly look. Openings: Winter Group Show @ White Walls

In addition to Travis Louie’s (interviewed) opening at Shooting Gallery last weekend (covered), the Winter Group Show debuted alongside in the adjoining White Walls gallery. Featuring some heavy hitters such as Shepard Fairey (featured), the Clayton Brothers (featured), and Anthony Lister (interviewed) the group show also boasts some upcoming and very exciting talent, namely artists like Nas Champas, Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed and pictured above), Aaron Nagel, and Casey Gray. Streets: Os Gemeos Performance

Os Gemeos recently participated in a public performance in downtown São Paulo of “The Stranger” aided by a large balloon of one of their classic figures. The parade performance was done in collaboration with Plasticien Volants, a world-renowned French company which specializes in creating aerial theater with giant inflatable puppets. Releases: Kehinde Wiley – “The World Stage: Brazil” Hardcover

You may remember when we covered Kehinde Wiley’s show at Roberts & Tilton back in April. Well, the gallery has now released “The World Stage: Brazil” book, a 22 paintings from when Wiley was in the South American country looking for subjects for his signature portraiture.
