Streets: New Banksy – Camden (Regent’s Canal)

Banksy fan and photographer Mammal sent us over some photos of new stencils from the elusive street artist near Regent’s Canal in Camden. Well-timed as usual with the Copenhagen climate talks ending without a legally binding treaty, Mr. B dedicated one of his pieces to the subject (after the jump) as well as this piece seen above with a pretty sweet tag. Take a look after the jump at more images as well as a third piece spotted by another man on the scene – […]

ESPO – A Love Letter For You (Xmas Edition)

Looks like Steve “ESPO” Power’s “A Love Letter For You” crew has been working hard beautifying West Philadelphia in time for Xmas. With the last several murals (48th, 49th, and 50th) finished during a blizzard, the impressive project is completed, but hopefully the artwork will continue to remind the City of Brotherly Love of their namesake for many years to come. More images after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Gladstone Gallery

Gladstone Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in the United States, led by Barbara Gladstone, probably the second most famous art dealer next to Larry Gagosian, had a power-packed booth at Art Basel.  It featured photographs, paintings, and sculptures by some of the best artists in world, including Richard Prince, Anish Kapoor, and Elizabeth Peyton. See more images from the booth after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’09: Aqua Fair

This year’s Basel Week Miami wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Aqua Art Miami fair in the Wynwood district. Chock full of visual goodies from galleries we know and love to some newly discovered ones that are now on the AM radar. It was treat to experience some great art at this fair. Check out all the images including several pieces from Jin Young Yu (interviewed & seen above) after the jump.

Teaser: “Nat Finkelstein: From One Extreme to the Other” @ Idea Generation Gallery

You may have seen this iconic image of Andy Warhol with Bob Dylan in front of his “Double Elvis” (an uncut Eight Elvises sold for a record $100 million recently) during his “Factory” days, but did you know who the photographer was? Idea Generation Gallery will be holding a retrospective in London next year of recently passed away Nat Finkelstein. Although the American photographer and photojournalist was known for his involvement with the Black Panthers and as a political radical back in the day, he […]

Openings: Travis Louie – “Lifetime Companions” @ Shooting Gallery

Travis Louie (interviewed) opened his latest solo show, “Lifetime Companions” at the Shooting Gallery this past weekend. Consisting of nine new acrylic paintings, “Lifetime Companions” explores the relationships and origins of a cavalcade of Louie’s characters seen mostly through the eye of a wedding portraitist. With a narrative that delves deeper than any fans imagination could possibly muster, Travis closes out 2010 with an amazing show and one not to miss.  In addition, Louie surprised his San Francisco fans with eight preliminary sketches, including a […]

Streets: LUDO

We’ve been keeping an eye on Paris-based street artist LUDO ever since he got up this piece on an abandoned boat. His “Nature’s Revenge” themed works feature juxtapositions of nature and urban elements as these hybrids fight back against the environmental destruction of humans. His fresh concepts and signature green wheatpastes brighten up an otherwise dreary landscape and the viewer can’t stop but think about the message the artist is trying to get across. More of LUDO’s recent work after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’09: Pulse Fair

Sometimes, it takes stepping out of your comfort zone to get a fresh perspective on the way one views art. That is what Pulse did for us in Miami. From the moment we entered the fair, we noticed many galleries and artists that we weren’t accustomed to viewing. We constantly found ourselves stopping and asking more questions about “what is that?” and “who made it?” than any other fair during Art Basel Week. A truly rewarding experience. Check out all the visual nuggets we dug up after […]

Showing: Rosson Crow – “Paris, Texas” @ Galerie Nathalie Obadia

You may remember seeing Rosson Crow’s luminous painting for the “Stages” exhibition that we have been covering.  She recently opened up her second solo show in Paris at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia entitled “Paris, Texas.” Utilizing vibrant colors, blurs, and drips, Rosson’s recent work features opulent interiors brought back from recent history infused with playful elements like the Koons balloon sculpture (seen above). AM will definitely be keeping an eye on this promising young artist. More pics after the jump via Galerie Nathalie Obadia.

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba @ Mizuma

As many art fans know, art isn’t just about the finished product; it’s often the process and inspiration that it draws from. Unlike their previous art fairs, Mizuma Gallery focused it efforts at Art Basel with a solo project from Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba entitled “Breathing is Free: 12,756.3- Ho Chi Minh City 118.3 km.” This unique series of work focuses on Jun physically running 12,756 Kilometers – the diameter of the earth – utilizing a wrist GPS as he runs and via the magic of a […]
