Basel Week Miami ’09: Kehinde Wiley x Michael Jackson

Stepping into the Deitch booth at Art Basel today, our attention was immediately drawn to the huge Michael Jackson painting by Kehinde Wiley. Apparently, Jackson contacted Kehinde a while back about a commission portrait after seeing his work at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, but Kehinde blew it off because he thought it was a joke. When Kehinde realized it was a real request, he sent over some art historical books to Jackson for him to look overbut unfortunately, the singer passed away before he […]

Streets: Blu in Lima – The Finished Wall

Looks like the massive time-intensive mural we told you he was working on has been completed by Italian street artist Blu, this time in Peru. He painstakingly covered this building with skulls and bones, turning it into his personal ossuary and then painted various figures (conquistador, priest, military, business) implied to have profited from the people of Lima. Openings: Tristram Lansdowne “Entropical Paradise” @ LE Gallery

AM had the pleasure of attending Tristram Lansdowne’s opening of “Entropical Paradise” at Toronto’s LE Gallery. The space was filled with curious art fans looking to catch a glimpse of Tristram’s work. After our studio visit and creative process feature with the young artist, we knew that we were in for a treat. Even with high expectations, what we saw was even a bit more than we expected. Tristram’s detailed watercolors were simply outstanding, safe to say even better than pictures can convey. One of […]
