Christie’s will be auctioning off the eclectic collection of the late Yves Saint Laurent next week starting Feb 23rd. The incredible collection of nearly 700 artworks were accumulated over decades by Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre BergÃ© valued at up to $425 million including Old Master drawings, Roman sculptures, Renaissance bronzes and works by Ingres, GÃ©ricault, Frans Hals, Picasso, Matisse, Braque, LÃ©ger and Mondrian. Â AM had the chance to stop by Joshua Liner GalleryÂ to check out two great shows: Unexpected Occurrences by Oliver VernonÂ and Unfinished Business by CrashÂ (previewed). Both of these artists took us by surprise with their unique styles. Crash has long been regarded as one of the pioneers of graffiti art, but we noticed his worksÂ broughtÂ a mix of Lichtenstein meets the streets. Marcel Dzama recently collaborated with David Byrne on this video from N.A.S.A. featuring the track “The People Tree.” This isn’t Marcel’s first foray into the music field as he has done album cover work in the past for artists such as They Might Be Giants and Beck. Italian street artist extraordinaire Blu recently was invited to speak in Barcelona at the fifth annual “Influencers” festival hosted by the Center of Contemporary Culture (CCCB).Â He was also commissioned to put up this fantastic mural of a giant shark made of money devouring old painted slogans as well as bearing down on a Swoon wheatpaste (although we are not sure if this was a collaboration). Grateful Palate’s James Jean Wine

When AM visited James Jeanâ€™s “Kindling” show at Jonathan Levine (here), the gallery served up some delicious wine with some of JJ’s artwork on it. Turns out that James designed three series of wine labels for California-based Grateful Palate. There are three different types of wine in the line: “Southern Belle” Shiraz, “Diddley Boo” Riesling, and “Poor Thing” Grenache. Each bottle has one of three different artwork on the label.
