Releases: James Jean – “Kali” Print

On March 23rd, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new time-limited print (starting 8:00 AM PDT and available for 12 hours only) through his webstore entitled Kali. The image is taken from one of his paintings for his show in Tokyo last year (covered) and features the Japan-based artist’s surreal take on the Hindu goddess of empowerment. The giclee will include a silkscreened pink dot pattern which were hand painted in the original. More details here. Discuss James Jean here.

Preview: “Cat Art Show 2” @ Think Tank Gallery

From March 24-27, shortly after closing their cake-themed installation and special programing (covered), Think Tank Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting the sequel group exhibition to 2014’s Cat Art Show. Over 70 artists including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, C215, Adam Wallacavage, Tim Biskup, Kozyndan, Luke Chueh, Brandi Milne, Natalia Fabia, Travis Lampe, Cyrcle., Jean Pierre Arboleda (seen above) and Edwin Ushiro will be contributing pieces inspired by their feline friends. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Showing: “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Over the weekend, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked off the festivities with a show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, something they have done for the last two years before this (see 2015 & 2014). As in the past, artists were asked to contribute works that conform to a certain format, leading to a visually congruent and display of artworks. With Chinese New Year coming up on Monday, interTrend in Long Beach has teamed up with James Jean (interviewed) for an interactive installation to celebrate the occasion. The project centers around the red envelopes given out around the holidays by families for good luck. In this case, they have been secured to the front of the company’s building (228 E.
