On August 30th, the second street art biennale ARTMOSSPHERE opened its doors at Moscow Manege. Introducing 26 Russian and 42 international artists whose practice was and/or is shaped by street art, the show is definitely unique in its size and concept. Focusing on a multicuratorial status, the international curators, museums and galleries presented their artists through unique works created in Moscow during art residencies. The exhibition highlights the diversity of styles and visual languages used by the participants to express themselves through the creation of public art. From figurative to abstract works, sculptures to […]

David Stoupakis x Joe Hill – “The Fireman” Limited Editions

David Stoupakis was asked recently to work on the limited editions of Joe Hill’s The Fireman book and boy did he deliver. Working in more color than he usually does, the New York-based painter used his artistic vision to beautifully bring to life scenes from the story about a worldwide pandemic of spontaneous combustion. The dust jacket, slipcase, and interior illustrations from Stoupakis are featured on the lettered tray case edition (run of 26 – sold out) and limited slipcased edition (run of 1000) copy of the book, […]

Previews: Daniel Arsham – “Circa 2345” @ Galerie Perrotin (New York)

Tomorrow night (September 15th) in New York, Daniel Arsham will be opening a show at Galerie Perrotin entitled Circa 2345. The exhibition will be the locally-based artist’s 11th solo with the gallery, but his first in their NYC branch. As the title suggests, he will be continuing his signature brand of “fictional archeology” where current day objects are created in the way that future generations would see them when they unearth them. In this new body of work, Arsham has added colors to his normal black & white […]

Showing: Isaac Cordal – “La Comédie humaine” @ La Médiatine

Currently in Brussels, Isaac Cordal’s show entitled La Comédie humaine is on view at La Médiatine. The series of sculptures and installations continues to document the lives of the little cement businessmen that the Spanish artist is known for, mirroring his work on the streets. It’s always interesting so see how the sculptor from Galicia uses the indoor space as he is able to expand on his public art with larger scale installations that further explore his satire and commentary on politics, bureaucracy, power, and environmental issues. Discuss Isaac […]

Previews: Ryan Hewett – “Order” @ Unit London

Following the successful preview show earlier this year (covered), Ryan Hewett (interviewed) is back with The Unit London for his solo. Opening on the 29th of September, the exhibition will introduce a new direction that the South African artist has taken with his work and approach. Slightly stepping away from spontaneous construction and deconstruction and a deliberately chaotic working process, the new works are cleaner, more restricted and thought through. Solid color backgrounds, carefully chosen tones of paint, smooth gradients, perfect circles and use of masking tape for […]

Previews: Eron – “#present #past #sentiment #dust” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Today, Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan will be opening the #present #past #sentiment #dust solo by Eron. For this exhibition, the Italian artist prepared a series of never-before-seen works consisting of mixed media on paper, spray paint on canvas, and sculptures. The show is based on the same approach he has when painting walls and objects in public – by drawing inspiration from the perceptual phenomenon known as Pareidolia, an instinctive and automatic tendency to find familiar shapes in chaotic images. This phenomenon often helps rationalizing seemingly paranormal […]
