Previews: Tomoo Gokita – “Out Of Sight” @ Mary Boone Gallery, Chelsea

Mary Boone Gallery in New York will be opening Out Of Sight, a solo by Tomoo Gokita (featured) on the 10th of September. For his second showing with the Chelsea gallery, the Tokyo-based artist painted a new body of work consisting of mostly large canvases. Staying true to his recognizable visual language, Gokita’s portraits are done exclusively in black & white and countless shades of gray. Inspired by retro films and photographs, they depict a fictional world of gangsters, starlets, movie stars and ordinary people. Using different ways to […]

Previews: Clare Rojas – “The Inexhaustible Middle” @ Alice Gallery

Clare Rojas will be featured soon in a solo entitled The Inexhaustible Middle at Alice Gallery in Brussels starting September 15th. Along with presenting her latest works on canvas and paper, Rojas will perform songs in her “folk-bluegrass” style under the pseudonym of singer-songwriter Peggy Honeywell. With this new body of work, the San Francisco-based artist has been working with patterns while utilizing different compositions and colors. Because she was “letting different visuals reveal themselves, within one work, through variations,” her “main concern was just having the work feel balanced.” Using a limited palette […]

From the 15th of September to the 8th of October, Pace London will be showing new work by Conor Harrington (interviewed). Watch Your Palace Fall will include 10 new large oil paintings in which the Irish-born artist combines realistic brushstrokes with the raw energy of abstraction. The new pieces feature signature scenes of fight and conflicts as well as the recurring motif of the golden mask as a metaphor for hiding your true self and creating a new identity. By obscuring the subject, these works address the commonness of social media selves and the […]

Soto further states – “I always feel like an artist’s entire body of work should be fair game to use. My cast of characters and the worlds I create are The Sotofish Society.” […]
