Releases: James Jean x OVM Butterfly Collection

Earlier this week, we heralded the imminent release of James Jean’s (featured) Butterfly collection from his OVM line. It looks like his fans didn’t have to wait long as the entire selection of earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets have been made available as well as a matching scarf. With this continuing foray into fashion, the multi-talented Jean continues to push his artistic boundaries while maintaining the shapes, colors, imagery, and aesthetic to those familiar with his work. As with many other artists followed by AM in the past, it looks like James Jean (featured) has been tapped to provided the cover art for Talib Kweli’s new album Prisoner of Conscious. Featuring the LA-based artist’s intricate stylings as a mask, the American rapper has chosen the title from his constant labeling as a “conscious rapper” and as a play off Nigerian reggae artist Majek Fashek’s album named Prisoner of Conscience. Openings: Todd James – “King of the Wild Frontier” @ Gering & Lopez

Last Thursday night, Todd James (aka REAS) unveiled a new body of works at New York’s Gering & Lopez. Entitled King of the Wild Frontier, this series takes another step forward from his previous showing with the gallery. Returning to NY for a showing at Gering & López, site of his show in early 2010, Street Market alumni Todd James will be presenting a whole new body of work on March 1st. King of the Wild Frontier will no doubt feature the artist otherwise known as REAS’ signature colorful and sardonic takes on various topics including perhaps politics and war. Book Signing: 3D Art Book Signing @ Chateau Marmont

Late last month, four members of the arts community came together at the Chateau Marmont for a special book signing event featuring 3D Art Book. Tristan Eaton,  Shepard Fairey, James Jean, and Gary Baseman were in attendance to sign the book for both fans of the book and of their work. Openings: London Art Fair 2012 (Part I)

On Tuesday, AM attended the opening of London Art Fair, an event that focuses on modern British and contemporary art, held at the Business Design Centre in Islington. In terms of overall presentation, the most attractive and cohesive booth for us this year is by London’s Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, featuring works by Bridget Riley, Anthony Caro and Kenneth Armitage. Signings: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Nucleus Gallery

Continuing his whirlwind books signing tour, James Jean (featured) will be at the Nucleus Gallery this Saturday, January 14th (6-9pm) in Southern California. Spots he has already hit up that we had the chance to attend include Reed Space in NYC and the LACMA, where we walked away impressed with the beautiful reproduction of his paintings from the Rebus show at Martha Otero’s in the 240 page publication.
