Rewind: Oct 13 – Nov 3

The end of this week brings another Rewind feature here on AM where we bring you art-related videos that may interest you. Leading things off is a closer at the recent mural painted by José Parlá at the James B. Hunt Library at the North Carolina State University. For those intrigued by the photos we shared with you back in July, make sure you watch the video below as the Brooklyn-based artist as he explains his thoughts behind the project making use of his urban calligraphic technique. Streets: Cyrcle. x Woodkid (Los Angeles)

The always productive Cyrcle. crew has blessed Los Angeles with another epic mural. This time, on a wall provided by Branded Arts, the boys collaborated with Woodkid on a piece that is located on the hotbed art gallery Hollywood intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Highland. Although it features the visual artists working with a musician, rather than being a marketing piece for a new album release or a advertisement, the work explores the aesthetic and concept of his music. It rewards followers and fans […]

Streets: Kenny Scharf (Los Angeles) – Part II

Last month, we shared with you photos of a mural that Kenny Scharf (interviewed) painted in Los Angeles on the Davis Brothers’ Tire Pros building in Culver City. Recently, the New York street legend revisited the location and blessed the north wall of the structure with more of his signature imagery. As you can see in the photos above of the project (arranged by Branded Arts), he also posed one of the cars in front that he has been painting for his fans bi-coastally in an ongoing project. Streets: Kenny Scharf (Los Angeles)

After opening his show at Honor Fraser (covered) in Los Angeles as well as painting on the cars of his lucky fans in the area, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) returned to New York where he continued improving vehicles with his signature imagery. Streets: World Roundup (July 15 – 21)

It’s been a while since we had a streets round up here on AM so we have some catching up to do. Leading off things for recent street activity around the world is this new mural (photo via SAN) from Conor Harrington (interviewed) in Rochester, New York. The wall was painted for the ongoing WALL\THERAPY festival and features the UK-based painters signature mix of colonialism, abstraction, and photorealism. Other notable murals include work from: Proembrion – Poland (source), Ericailcane x Bastardilla – Italy (source), Herbert Baglione x SAN […]

Last we heard, Hush (interviewed) was in Melbourne for a solo showing in May of 2012 (covered). Fast forward a year and this time he will be opening an exhibition tomorrow night at the Corey Helford Gallery. While here, he just finished a mural at the Branded Arts Building featuring his East meets West urban aesthetic. We’ll have more about the show soon, but for now, take a look at more in-progress photos below… Photo credit: Theonepointeight. Discuss Hush here.

Streets: David Flores @ The Reserve L.A. (Los Angeles)

Over the weekend, artist David Flores finished a new mural at the new creative campus named “The Reserve L.A.” which is the new home of the Microsoft and TMZ offices. This artistic project for The Reserve is part of several murals that Branded Arts was brought in to organize and curate. Using a photograph of Albert Einstein as his source, Flores created a mural that’s actually made up of two layers, giving it a three-dimensional look. It’s definitely one of his best projects up to […]
