Showing: “New Classics” @ Galerie C.O.A.

At the end of last month, Galerie C.O.A. in Montreal opened up a group show featuring artists who took inspiration from artistic movements or individual masters of the past, albeit with their own contemporary take on things. Curated by Sasha Bogojev, the exhibition included work from Eleanor Mccaughey, Pablo Benzo, Ted Pim, Erkut Terliksiz, Emilio Villalba, Sean Norvet, Kathy Ager, Julio Anaya Cabanding (seen above), Doping-Pong, Aldo Sergio, and Mathieu Cherkit.

Openings: Keiichi Tanaami – “Tanaami x adidas Originals” @ Nanzuka

Over the weekend, Nanzuka in Tokyo presented a special show in association with adidas Originals from the legendary Keiichi Tanaami featuring his special mix of surreal imagery influenced by childhood memories such as the Great Tokyo Air Raid of World War II. The new body of work includes 16 new works on canvas, with many that feature the brand’s famous “Trefoil” logo and several new three-dimensional works. German muralist and artist, Hendrik Beikirch, recently released his latest publication documenting his most recent project, Siberia, through The Montresso Foundation in Marrakech, Morocco. Accompanying a large solo exhibition comprising of large scale portraits created after his visits to the remote region of Russia, the artist worked once again with the same institution that introduced his previous Tracing Morocco series and publication. Previews: Kisung Koh – “Way of Life II” @ Thinkspace

This Saturday night (February 2nd), Thinkspace in Los Angeles will be opening a solo exhibition from Kisung Koh entitled Way of Life II. For his first showing in the main space, the Toronto-based artist will be presenting a series of works featuring animal subjects set in an allegorical universe often steeped with a sense of loss and longing. For this particular body of work, the Korean artist will be exploring the necessity of interrelationships in nature intermixing realism with surreal elements.

Upcoming: Phlegm – “Mausoleum of the Giants” (Sheffield)

So, it looks like Phlegm has been hard at work at something epic that will open to the public soon in the UK. Mausoleum of the Giants in the street artist’s home base of Sheffield will feature large-scale sculptural installations in an abandoned factory, populating the halls and rooms with creatures and elements of his distinct imagery.
