Recap / Streets: Forest For The Trees 2014

After bringing you photos last month of the impressive collaborative mural from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Souther Salazar, we now have a recap  for the rest of the Forest For The Trees (FFTT) event. Most of the artists for this year have already left their mark in Portland for the nonprofit public mural project including Mary Iverson (seen above). Take a look at the rest of the walls below as well as some videos…

Openings: DALeast – “The Laten Photon” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

DALeast (interviewed) recently opened his solo The Laten Photon at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. Taking a step back from creating murals around the world, the Chinese artist spent last year focused more on his studio work, which is clearly noticeable from the pieces presented. Following the success of his previous show with the gallery almost two years ago (covered), and last year’s UK sold out solo debut (covered), this exhibition attracted a lot of art lovers and generated some great feedback. One thing that could be heard at the gallery was that […]

Openings: Ian Francis – “Endless Summer” @ Outsiders

Following his exhibition 10,000 Years From Now at Lazarides Rathbone (covered here) back in 2012, the Bristol-based Ian Francis (featured) has returning to London for a solo exhibition Endless Summer at The Outsiders. Blending photorealism with abstract landscapes, the new body of work features a series of same sized intimate studies that encapsulate a collection of multiple narratives and disparate moments in time. Take a look at more photos from the opening below. Recap / Streets: Heerlen Murals Project 2014

The Dutch city of Heerlen in the southernmost province of Limburg recently rounded up their 2nd edition of Heerlen Murals Project. The idea of this ongoing project is to bring life and fresh energy to the streets and the daily life of the city. Heerlen experienced a strong hit to the economy since the closing of a coal mine back in the 60’s, and through programmes such as this one, it is slowly getting a new, positive and recognizable image. By bringing world class street art onto its facades and streets, […]

Recap / Streets: No Limit Boras Festival

The Swedish city of Boras recently hosted a street art event between the 4th and 7th of September. Inviting some recognizable names from the street art world, the organizers of the No Limit Boras Festival were aiming to turn the city’s public space into an outdoor exhibition. Following the worldwide trend of inviting street artists to beautify dull urban facades, this event in a way opposes the strict “zero tolerance” policy that’s in effect all around the country. We recently received these photos of the finished murals by Kobra from Brazil […]

Previews: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Solstice” @ Arcadia Contemporary

Continuing his long collaboration (also see 2011, 2012) with New York’s Arcadia Contemporary, Aron Wiesenfeld will be opening a show soon at their Soho location. Entitled Solstice, the new body of work from the San Deigo-based painter will further gift his fans with paintings filled with his haunting and powerful imagery. Along with the opening on September 18th, Wiesenfeld will also be at the gallery on the 20th to sign his new 120 page monograph – The Well. Discuss Aron Wiesenfeld here.

Recap: Nuart Festival (Part I) – Indoor

Last week, the Nuart Festival in Norway continued its long run of excellence with the 2014 lineup of street artists in town for indoor and outdoor works. First up is a look at the installations and murals this year’s roster got up in the Stavenger TouScene venue. Participating artists included Andreco, Borondo, DotDotDot, Etam Cru, Fra.Biancoshock, Icy & Sot, John Fekner, Levalet, M-City, Martin Whatson, Mathieu Tremblin, ±MAISMENOS±, Spy, Strøk, and Tilt. Preview: The Ninth Annual “Blab Show” @ Copro Gallery

Another year, and it’s time again for another Blab Show at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles, the ninth in a series of exhibitions. It’s again curated by Monte Beauchamp, who is known for his anthology of art, illustration, articles, profiles, found graphics, cartoons and sequential art – Blab World. This year, participants include Joe Coleman, Mark Ryden, Lola Gil, Cathie Black, Joe Sorren (seen above), Peter Ferguson, Seamus Conley, Tara McPherson, Jana Brike, Erik Mark Sandberg, Chet Zar, Travis Lampe, Bill Mayer, Owen Smith, Marc Burckhardt, […]

Openings: Michael De Feo – “A Pocket Full Of Posies” @ Rush Arts Gallery

Last week, Rush Arts Gallery welcomed in a set of new paintings from Michael De Feo, his first solo in New York in more than 10 years. A Pocket Full of Posies from the man famously known for his iconic flower motif, oftentimes painted illegally on the streets, is somewhat of a departure artistically for him but makes sense as he explores his chosen subject in a more painterly fashion. Take a look at more photos from the opening below and head over to the […]

Cyrcle. For Beef & Liberty Restaurant (Hong Kong)

The dynamic duo known as Cyrcle. (featured) are not new to the Hong Kong art scene (see here and here). So, it comes to no surprise that their imagery has been chosen for the interiors at Beef & Liberty in Wanchai, which allows us to continue our look at the many restaurants that feature work from artists you have seen here on AM. The 83-seat diner, whose decor comes from the minds of the design studio Spinoff, focuses on gourmet burgers. Take a look at more photos below and head […]
