With the second edition of POW! WOW! Long Beach successfully completed, it’s now time to review the murals painted for the event. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’16 / Streets: Update

The second edition of POW! WOW! Long Beach is underway with artists painting in the streets as well as inside the Long Beach Museum of Art for the upcoming Vitality & Verve: In The Third Dimension show (covered). Upcoming: POW! WOW! Long Beach 2016

Back for a second year, POW! WOW! Long Beach 2016 will be kicking off soon, running from July 11-17. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’16 / Upcoming: “Vitality & Verve: In the Third Dimension” @ LBMA

With this year’s POW! WOW! Long Beach fast approaching, the installation of the associated group show is already underway at the Long Beach Museum of Art with murals being prepped by a large roster of artists. Vitality & Verve: In the Third Dimension is presented by the museum in collaboration with Thinkspace & POW! WOW! LB and will feature originals, installations, and murals (just like last year). POW! WOW! / SXSW ’16: Recap

Earlier this month, the POW! WOW! crew spent a second year (see 2015) at SXSW painting murals for festival goers to enjoy. The roster this year included artists like Esao Andrews, Fafi, Jasper Wong, Jeffrey Gress, Kamea Hadar and Madsteez as well as local muralists like Dave Lowell, Eleanor “Niz” Herasimchuk, Jason Eatherly (seen above), Scott Tarbox, and Wade “Fish” Thompson, See some of what they painted below… Photo credit: Jasper Wong.                  

POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Streets: Slinkachu

After a look (here & here) at most of the murals painted for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, we now focus in on some of the work for the event that you may have missed. Created on a miniature level by Slinkachu, the tiny sculptures were scattered and hidden in plain site around Oahu, including underneath some of the muralists, leading to some interesting collaborations. Starting this week, artists have been hard at work painting murals for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii. Beautifying the streets of Kaka’ako in Oahu with their imagery, the participants get to enjoy the tropical weather and throngs of fans as they leave their mark at the annual event. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Showing: “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Over the weekend, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked off the festivities with a show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, something they have done for the last two years before this (see 2015 & 2014). As in the past, artists were asked to contribute works that conform to a certain format, leading to a visually congruent and display of artworks.
