Releases: Jasper Wong – “POW! WOW! x HYPERFLY” Collaboration

Tomorrow at 10am, HYPERFLY will be releasing a collaboration with POW! WOW! founder Jasper Wong on their website. The collaboration between the Hawaii-based artist and the brand from the world of Jiu-Jitsu will feature a Gi, pants, rash guard and bag with the design inspired Wong’s studies in Kung Fu, as well as the saying, “catch a tiger by the tail.” Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Jasper Wong here.

Continuing to collaborate with POW! WOW! Hawaii (2020 edition started this weekend), Thinkspace will putting their Exploring The New Contemporary Movement VII group show at Wade Warehouse (449 Cooke Street) on view from February 11-15. Streets: Super A @ POW! WOW! Rotterdam

Continuing to work in his recent distinctive style of unravelling cartoonish characters to revel their true world counterparts inside, Super A recently painted a new mural in the Netherlands. Created for the second edition of POW! WOW! Rotterdam, the wall from the Dutch artist features his version of Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket with a little boy and insect inside. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’19 / Streets: Mural Recap

A couple weeks ago, we shared a mural by Shepard Fairey (interviewed) that he recently completed for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii. This time around we have photos from most of the walls the were painted around Honolulu for the annual street art festival. POW! WOW! Antelope Valley ‘ 18 / Streets: Amy Sol

Last month, Amy Sol (interviewed) had the opportunity to paint her first outdoor wall and her largest mural to date for this year’s POW! WOW! Antelope Valley. Curated by Thinkspace & Lancaster MOAH and created at the BLVD in downtown Lancaster, the piece features Sol’s signature female characters & creature companions created in a delicate muted palette. Last month, another POW! WOW! wrapped up in Rotterdam, their first event in Europe. POW! WOW! Rotterdam featured live music and a special exhibition in the HAKA building, but of course our focus is on the street art that was created at Keilewerf 1 and 2, an area that used to be an industrial part of the city. Streets: OG Slick (POW! WOW! Worcester)

Continuing to work with the POW! WOW! family, OG Slick recently finished a wall for this year’s event in Worcester, Massachusetts. The mural features a motif the Los Angeles-based artist has worked on in the past featuring his familiar Micky Mouse hands spray painting a smiley face. We’ll have more from POW! WOW! POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18: Papercut Lounge

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! Long Beach (more coverage here) the Papercut Lounge worked with a group of artists to make zines available to festival attendees (which you can still purchase online here). The popup space not only served as a shop but also featured a cascading installation of books by Olga Lah and a large painting from Brendan Monroe as well as hosted the kickoff and closing party for the week-long, city-wide event. Recap: POW! WOW! Long Beach 2018

POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18 / Previews: “Vitality and Verve III” @ LBMA

Tomorrow (June 30th), Vitality and Verve III will open to the public (private gala tonight) at the Long Beach Museum of Art, presented in curatorial collaboration with Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Projects and the support of POW! WOW! Long Beach. The third iteration of the group exhibition highlighting artists from the “New Contemporary Art Movement” features an excellent roster including Sergio Garcia and Saber who collaborated on a cool installation featuring Garcia’s sculpture of Saber’s hand in mid spray with the graffiti artist providing his tag.
