Ben Slow Mural tribute to Ruth First in Soweto

British artist Ben Slow has painted a large mural of Ruth First in Nomzamo Park informal settlement in Orlando East, Soweto. Starting on National Heritage day, the 12 foot tall painting was completed in five days using ink and brush and spray paint. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the assassination of Ruth First by a letter bomb in Mozambique. The spot where the painting is located is only a few kilometres from Kliptown where in 1955 the Freedom Charter was adopted by the Congress […]

Jen Stark – “To the Power Of” @ Martha Otero

Yesterday, Jen Stark’s To the Power Of exhibition kicked off at the Martha Otero Gallery, her first solo ever in Los Angeles. Featuring the locally-based artist signature papercut sculptures, the complex multi-colored creations charmed attendees to the showing all night long. Interesting variations included a piece built directly into the wall as well as miniature works. Photo credit: theonepointeight for Arrested Motion. Discuss Jen Stark here.

Streets: Blu (Rome)

After painting a brilliant mural in Spain for the DesOrdes Creativas Festival back in July, Italian street savant Blu has surfaced in Rome with another detailed wall. This piece seen at greyhound track, under Ponte Marconi features renderings of classic roman sculptures but updated with a modern twist – religious figures, politicians, the KKK, and even the couch potato make an appearance.  Check out more details in the photos below… Via StreetArtNews. Openings: Gregory Euclide – “Observing only the ease of my own slipping toward your unknown” @ David B. Smith Gallery

A couple weeks back, the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver hosted the opening for Gregory Euclide’s latest solo show. Entitled Observing only the ease of my own slipping toward your unknown, the new work sees Euclide continue to walk the thin line between two and three dimensional art. Utilizing a visual vocabulary that includes the natural world and architectural elements, the show includes large scale paintings and sculptural assemblages, smaller mono prints, and Laid Down & Wiped Slowly Away – temporary painting composed by Euclide on a 48 x 96 inch […]

Streets: DesOrdes Creativas (Part III) – Liqen

After heavy hitters like the Italians Blu & Ericailcane did their thing at the DesOrdes Creativas Festival in Spain, Mexico’s finest Liqen has traveled to the town of Ordes to make his own mark. Seemingly taking a page from the political and figurative work of Blu, Liqen has painted a beautifully rendered mural of  a giant hand with a Shell logo ring sweeping their dirty laundry under the “rug.” Check the details below… Discuss Liqen here.

Streets: Joker / Shok-1 / Remi Rough (London)

There seems to be a whole lot of muralising going on around the Futurism 2.0 exhibition we previewed earlier this week with a host of out-of-town artists in London for the show (which opens on Thursday 27th September) such as Joker aka Jerry Inscoe from Transcend. Keep your eyes peeled for more action in the coming days. This collaboration between Joker, Shok-1 and Remi Rough works particularly well, and was completed over the last 2 days.
