Streets: Wall Therapy Festival (Part I) – DALeast

Last week, the South Africa-based DALeast sent over photos of a new mural he painted up in Rochester, New York for the Wall Therapy Festival. Held from July 20-28, the urban beautification project will also feature artists like Case, ROA, How & Nosm, Eine, Faith47, and Liqen. We’ll have more for you soon, but for now, check out this impressive whale mural structured from DAL’s signature kinetic whirls and strokes. Discuss DAL here.

Preview: James “Dalek” Marshall – “STABILIMENTUM” @ Hurley H SPACE Gallery

Tomorrow night (July 31st), in celebration of the US Open of Surfing 2012 (also see PUSH’s effort) and launch of the Phantom Fuse boardshort, Hurley presents STABILIMENTUM, an immersive new installation from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Openings: SABER – “Beautification” @ Known Gallery

Over the weekend, the Known Gallery in the heart of Los Angeles brought the summer heat with a joint exhibition between SABER (interviewed) & REVOK, two LA’s most wanted. First up are photos of the graf-inspired works from SABER collectively entitled Beautification. For this showing, record breaking artist decided to move away from the flag-inspired works that he has been working on of late and created a set of mostly figurative paintings centered around urban landscapes superimposed with his signature flowing script. Teaser: Matt Small – “Seen and Heard” @ Blackall Studios

On August 10th, a new series of works from Matt Small (interviewed) will be on display at Blackall Studios in London. Presented by Moniker Projects, the paintings are collectively entitled Seen and Heard, also the name of the youth empowerment project the UK-based artist has been working on. Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). Showing: Friends With You – “Happy Rainbow” @ TMTP Cultural Center

It’s always nice to see concept images become reality – with FriendsWithYou’s exhibition in Hong Kong being no exception. The new installation from the Miami-based duo entitled Happy Rainbow opened to the public recently at the TMTP Cultural Center to the delight of their fans there. The inflatable bouncing installations as well as fiberglass, plush and resin sculptures are always a hit with the younger crowd but certainly was fun for all ages. Via Designboom. Openings: Kamea Hadar – “White Dreams” @ Loft In Space

Last weekend, the our friend Kamea Hadar opened a new solo show at the Loft In Space gallery in Hawaii. Kamea is one of the people who has been instrumental in planning the annual POW WOW art festival (covered) in Oahu and is an artist himself. For this new body of work entitled White Dreams, he put together a series of paintings that deal with his personal experiences with his Jewish and island upbringing. As such, his new paintings reflect influences from both background and include a wall to ceiling installation.
