Showing through the end of the weekend, Art Stage Singapore, which is taking place at the spectacular Marina Bay Sands Convention and Exhibition Centre, seeks to distinguish itself from other fairs in the region by maintaining a strong focus on Asian artists. Among the exhibitors are major galleries from Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Seoul, Beijing, Jakarta, Tokyo, Sydney, Taipei, Mumbai, as well as well-known dealers from Europe and the US. Although we did not catch glimpses of work from Adam Neate and Scott Campbell […]

Art Focus: Carly Waito

Admirers of gems and photo-realistic painting technique will enjoy our Art Focus this week on Carly Waito. The Toronto-based artist and graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design chooses specimens of semi-precious gems and minerals, photographs them in macroscopic detail, and then renders them in oil paints with meticulous care. Her most recent showing was at the Narwhal Projects booth at the Aqua Fair during Art Basel Miami Week. More sample images after the jump…

Streets: Escif & Blu (Buenos Aires)

While his compadre, Italian street artist Blu was painting up Buenos Aires (here, here, and here), it looks like Escif tagged along (you may also remember their back to back efforts together in Spain here) to work on some walls of his own. His contribution to the Argentinian city-scape is an entertaining step-by-step rendition of how to open a locked door with a credit-card. *Correction* this is a collaboration piece with Blu. More photos after the jump from Buenos Aires Street Art.

Signings: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Nucleus Gallery

Continuing his whirlwind books signing tour, James Jean (featured) will be at the Nucleus Gallery this Saturday, January 14th (6-9pm) in Southern California. Spots he has already hit up that we had the chance to attend include Reed Space in NYC and the LACMA, where we walked away impressed with the beautiful reproduction of his paintings from the Rebus show at Martha Otero’s in the 240 page publication. See you tomorrow night. Discuss James Jean here.

Although an associated White Devil mini-print is now sold out, the book is now available for pre-order here (included is a custom bookplate hand-signed by Michael Hussar) with the official release at a February event in […]

Openings: Futura 2000 – “Expansions” @ Galerie Jerome de Noirmont (Paris)

Last night, AM was invited for a early viewing of Futura’s show at Jerome de Noirmont in Paris. The exhibition entitled Expansions was a fresh collection of works created by the New York graffiti legend. Getting to see the paintings up close gave us a deeper appreciation of the details layered in by the Brooklyn-based artist. This strong new series of works on canvas contained a next level of abstraction & colors mixed with his minimalist spray paint techniques which reflected a evolution of over three […]

Preview: “It Is As It Was” @ Good Press Gallery (Glasgow)

Good Press Gallery has been in existence for just a few short months now, and AM got to check out their inaugural group exhibition The Family Show back in October whilst visiting Glasgow. With a keen curatorial eye and a healthy DIY spirit, Good Press’ upcoming group exhibition It Is As It Was features five young artists whose work we enjoy. Matthew Feyld, R.M. Phoenix, Ryan Stewart Nault, Morgan Blair and Amy Hancock-Martin make up this international showcase, opening 12th January. In particular, we’re pretty taken with […]

Streets: Buff Monster @ The Standard (Los Angeles)

Last time we saw Buff Monster (featured) out on the streets of Los Angeles, he was atop a busy Hollywood Boulvard pasting up his trademark design and commemorating his 10th year anniversary (covered). Now, he’s begun 2012 with a new mural on the doorsteps of the The Standard Hotel in Los Angeles. Known as an open invitation for artists such as Eric Haze and Dave Kinsey, this wall is now glowing bright with Buff’s usual shades of pink. This piece, which took him two days to […]
