After bringing you photos a new political and provocative mural form Blu about a week ago, here is another set of pics of another mural painted by the Italian street savant in Buenos Aires. Teaser: Banks Violette @ Blum & Poe

Thanks to Blum & Poe, the Los Angeles art world will be welcoming in the new year with a thunderous bang.  Banks Violette will be showing solo in the City of Angels for the first time ever (he’s shown at a B&P before in a 2006 group show and had a two-person exhibit at Peres Projects in 2004) and given the size and prestige of the gallery, we have a lot to be excited about.  Information, including the name of the exhibition, is not yet […]

Anish Kapoor – “ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower” Completed

Anish Kapoor’s (with help from structural designer Cecil Balmond) twisting tower next to the Olympic stadium in London that we first mentioned last year has been completed ahead of the summer games for 2012. Dubbed the “ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower” due to steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, the chairman of ArcelorMittal, investing £19.6 million in the £22.7 million project, the 114.5 metres tall looping sculpture will dominate the skyline as UK’s tallest structure and feature two observation floors, a 455-step spiral staircase, an elevator, and a restaurant. WK Interact for Wired Magazine

Last week we shared with you some hardcore works that WK Interact put up in Paris in conjunction with the “Occupy Movements” occurring around the globe. Now we can show you the “would have been” cover for this month’s Wired Magazine. Unfortunately, WK informed us that Wired change their minds on the cover, but the good news is that this artwork and more by the NY-based artist are still displayed inside a “Riot” spread in the magazine. So go out to your newsstand and cop a […]

Terry Richardson – “Mom & Dad” @ Half Gallery

We recently caught a show by renowned photographer Terry Richardson in New York’s Half Gallery. Mom & Dad featured an excerpt of select photos from his latest monograph from Morel Books (available here). As the title indicates, Richardson included photos of his late father Bob Richardson, a well-known fashion photographer and mother Annie. There were two installations to accompany the photos. First was a collection of printed photos that lined the floor of the gallery and a second was a series of archived answering machine […]

Openings: Silvia Ji – “Gilded Roses”

This past weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery presented the latest solo show by the painter Sylvia Ji (interviewed). Titled Gilded Roses, the exhibition featured a collection of work that was accentuated by the artist’s penchant for intricate details as well as her use of a colorful palette. The night featured twelve paintings, all which reference a Victorian-like quality mixed with a slightly surreal tone. As expected, a great amount of her fans turned out to see what Ji’s new work looked like and she didn’t disappoint. The […]

Studio Visit / Streets: Tilt

AM was fortunate to visit French graffiti artist TILT in his studio in Toulouse as he prepared for multiple shows in London at POW, Singapore and Manila, and to follow him across the streets. When not painting graffiti on naked “bubble girls” across the world, the self declared “graffiti fetichist” leverages his fun and colourful bubble letters to represent iconic portraits, shoes and flags.
