Preview: Lisa Yuskavage @ David Zwirner

Tonight at David Zwirner in New York, Lisa Yuskavage returns with a collection of mostly new paintings. As with her show last year in London, she continues to explore her portraitures of the female nude, all painted with her signature lush and erotic touch. For this exhibiton, the NY-based artist also appears to incorporate more elements of landscape and still-life painting into her narrative including a large triptych, the first time for her in this format. Some great street art surprises have popped up around Shoreditch since the last AM London Instagram Roundup. First up, this brilliant, huge piece by the prolific Sweet Toof and CEPT at Village Underground was exceptionally nice to see. LUDO (featured) has also been getting up with his paste-ups whilst in London for his solo show Metamorphosis at High Roller Society (covered). Preview / Installation: Interesni Kazki – “Objects of the Universe” @ Avantgarden

Coming up on Thursday night, September 29th, in Milan, street sensations Interesni Kazki will be opening their solo show at AvantGarden. The Ukrainian duo’s work is colorful and surreal with almost a Dali-esque feel to it. Appropriately, their exhibition is entitled Objects of the Universe as their paintings are typically filled with disparate mundane items arranged in inventive compositions. Also, interesting will be how their work (see Russia, Ibiza, Portugal, and Slovakia) translates indoors although they will be working on some wall murals as well. […]

It looks like Dave White, who showed in Art Copenhagen last year (covered), decided to give his fans in Denmark a proper gallery show. The new body of work for Americana currently on at Galleri Jules Julian explores some of the iconography particular to the US, mainly cowboys and Indians, all painted in the loose style White has been using recently. Perhaps influenced by the pop-up restaurant The Tree House (see video above) in Frankfurt for which he presumably curated the artwork for, Lazarides will be bringing the PRET A DINER concept in for his newest project in London. AM recently caught the opening of Richard Hambleton’s A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury’s Park Avenue gallery space. The two floor location showcased a survey of Richard’s long history of working in both street and fine art with pieces dating back to 1982 on display including his classic shadow silhouettes to his more recent contemporary landscapes that he names “beautiful paintings.” Of course, much like the last opening hosted by Valmorbida, the fashion week event drew a mix of New York’s elite to catch this […]
